Senior School Highlights

Years 9 and 10 French Excursion

Maria Kantzas, Year 9

Year 9 and Year 10 French students recently had the privilege of going to a French Creperie called Roule Galette in Carnegie. The purpose of the excursion was to celebrate our French achievements over the year and to use our language skills to order food in French.

Students were also able to learn more about the culture and food traditionally eaten in France. We also had a competition to see which team could find out the most information about their waitress or waiter by asking them questions in French.

Once we arrived at the cafe we were amazed to see how traditional French crêpes were made, and the range of delicious French food on offer. To apply our French speaking skills, everyone gave their orders in French.

Each person tasted a French Orangina juice, savoury crêpe and sweet crêpe. There were a variety of different flavoured crêpes to choose from and some of the savoury crêpe flavours included cheese and ham, egg and cheese and cheese and tomato. The crêpes tasted delicious. Some of the popular sweet crêpe flavours were nutella, caramel and sucre citron.

Overall, our experience of a French creperie was very rewarding  - both for our French speaking skills and for the delicious food!

On 14 November, Year 9 students held their Challenge Expo and showcased the communities they had been working with including: Bupa Australia, Vasey RSL Care, Brimlea Aged Care Facility, Karinya Grove, Katandra Primary School, Caulfield House, Sheridan House and our own ELC.

Each student received a Red Cross Australia Community Service certificate in recognition of their efforts.

Traffic Signal Boxes Design by Year 10 Students

Here are their amazing designs:

Year 8: 'Our Sustainable World' STEAM Project

The Year 8s have been hard at work on 'Our Sustainable World'. This transdisciplinary STEAM project requires students to explore the impact that our lifestyle has on the planet and discover ways that we can live more sustainably.

They began by considering the impact of the waste we produce and took part in a litter picking walk around Ormond where they found a huge amount of rubbish. Each House then separated this into recyclable and non-recycled waste and disposed of it correctly. Well done to Burman House for collecting the most waste!

They then took part in sustainability workshops where students trialled different sustainable methods of producing electricity and practised their coding techniques on spheros.

Year 7 (2019) Orientation Day

On 20 November, we held the Year 7 (2019) orientation day. While the students set off on a new stage in their school life, we enjoyed morning tea with their families.
