NRL Visit

On Tuesday the 9/10 PASS elective class had the privilege to listen to the triumphs faced by George Rose in his dream to complete Year 12 and to play for Australia as a Rugby League player.  He talked about his days at school, injury setbacks and to always surround yourself with people who will support your dreams in life. This program is a part of the NRL Dream, Believe and Achieve Program. We would like to thank Peter Stevens and the NRL development team for this opportunity to be inspired by people who have achieved their goals by never giving up on the bigger picture.

Secondary Diocesan Swimming Carnival

St Philomena’s swimmers took to the pool last Thursday against the other Diocesan schools. Two students, Emily DiDonna and Joshua Elbourne, were age champions and had some great qualifying times for Sydney in April. Louis Cannington also had a big swim in the 50m freestyle which qualifies him also for the NSWCCC Swimming Championships. A huge congratulations to all the swimmers who made it to the Diocesan level and to all the helpers, especially the Year 10 students who helped make this an enjoyable, drama free event! Well done St Philomena’s.

Bill Turner Soccer

On Monday this week, both Years 7 & 9 girls and boys competed against Moree Secondary College (MSC) in the Bill Turner Trophy and Cup Knockout Competition. The girls won on a forfeit from MSC, however, still managed to come up with a win in the friendly match. The boys had a tough game in very hot conditions. Half time blew and the game was still nil all. The boys lifted, working well as a team allowing Joshua Elbourne to score from a wonderful assisted kick by Jack Montgomery. Midfielders and backs then had a tough job to defend our half and were able to see the game out with a 1-0 score. Both teams are scheduled to play Narrabri High School on Tuesday 29th March. Big thanks to our students for running the line and helping to set up/pack up the field. Also thanks to the Moree Junior Soccer Club for lending us their nets.
