Principal's Report

Much to celebrate! Including:

  • Our Year 12 girls are counting down their final days of school and looking forward to the 2016 adventures of university, other study, work or travelling. The valedictory celebration will be a highlight for our families, a poignant time for reflection but excitement about your daughter’s future. To our girls, please take care, enjoy these last days after thirteen years of schooling, do your best in the exams but know the VCE does not define who you are. We are here to help and support you both during and beyond exams
  • Plans for the 21st Birthday of MGC Celebration Day on October 24th are almost complete with entertainment, Devonshire Tea, Art Exhibitions and events. The day will be an opportunity to see our esteemed Judy Crowe once more as well as former Principals Cavell Zangalis and Jan Parkes. The memories over 21 years of these amazing leaders will be inspiring to hear. The new language and administration rooms will also be open and you are welcome to tour them. Please remember all are welcome!
  • ·         Our inaugural university study trip to China through our connection with the Confucius Classroom was a major success. Our girls sat an HSK exam whilst studying at Hanban University and achieved excellent results. Our French students enjoyed a wonderful tour also. Thank you to Pingping Elliott, Kay Clarke Darryl Hoare, Jason Kohlman, Kathryn Lloyd and Xaris Miller who led each trip. Our teachers who organise and accompany students on camps and overseas trips work over and above to ensure the very best learning and experiences for our students.
  • Welcome back to Jessica Bouchaud from family leave on 23rd October. Jess will be teaching Anne Corry’s classroom music whilst Anne is enjoying Long Service Leave.

Learning @ MGC

We have been working on our Curiosity and Powerful Learning Framework as a staff, with an excellent meeting on Tuesday 13th October. I thank staff for their hard work and professionalism.

During the term break Kay Clarke, Linda Brown and I attended the Australian College of Educational Leaders Conference in Sydney. World renowned academic researchers in education shared their knowledge on how we can best prepare our young people for a future which is changing exponentially. The presenters included Robert Marzano, Alma Harris, Young Zhao, Andy Hargreaves and Michael Fullan. The conference certainly made us reflect on this quote from Al Gore, “There is no prior period of change that remotely resembles what humanity is about to experience. We have gone through revolutionary periods before, but not as powerful and pregnant with the fraternal twins - peril and opportunity – as the one beginning to unfold”.
