Anaphylaxis Advice

We have children in the school who suffer from anaphylaxis, a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life-threatening. Since 2008, all schools are legally required to implement strategies to prevent these students’ exposure to allergens. The allergens that are a problem are peanuts and nuts.
It is critical for the school community to understand that smelling, touching or ingesting certain allergens is life-threatening for some of our students. Shared food and food brought from home can unwittingly pose a severe risk.
For this reason, you are requested not to send
- any nuts (including peanuts and tree nuts), products containing these nuts (including peanut butter, nutella or some snack bars),
- or containers that have previously stored nuts.
to school, even in your own child’s lunch or snack.
Parents are also advised that teachers in all classes are unable to distribute any birthday cakes or treats as these may pose a health risk for some students. We request your cooperation in organising birthday celebrations outside of school.
More information regarding the school’s anaphylaxis policy can be found on our website.
Thank you for understanding the needs of those students who are anaphylactic.
