Teaching and Learning in 4S

It has been an incredibly busy start to the new school year in 4S and we’ve been incredibly excited with all of the new opportunities that Grade 4 presents.  We have been settling into our classroom routines and getting to know new classmates and making new friends.

One of the big highlights of moving into Grade 4 is the opportunity to explore our unique LPS Farm each week and students have loved this new experience. We’ve discussed being safe whilst working with tools and animals, and got to meet the animal residents of our farm.  Singing to Sal is a particular favourite as she loves to dance for everyone, and Buzz the chicken loves being picked up and cuddled.  The guinea pigs are a crowd favourite, and we all loved seeing the new baby chicks that were born over the Christmas holidays.

So far, we’ve learnt about different types of farms, and about the importance of pollination for growing plants.  This week we’re choosing and planting our own seeds and we are going to be looking after them and then transplanting them into the garden beds once they have grown enough.  Hopefully we’ll have enough plants to harvest to eat later in the year.
