Principal's Report

Congratulations to all our student leaders who, on Monday accepted their 2023 leadership badges. Please look after these and wear them with pride.

Attendance

The Department of Education is currently looking very closely at each student’s attendance.  All Principals receive a report every 2 weeks with students who are having too much time off school.  I must be able to explain to the Department why this is so. What this means for you (parents and carers) is you MUST give a reason for your child’s absence.  If they are sick, keep them home but please let us know via SENTRAL.

Unfortunately, many students took the “day off” last Friday because it was “too hot”.  This is not a valid reason to not attend school.  I will be recording these absences for DET as parent choice, unauthorised.  All spaces have air conditioning and students stay inside at lunch time.

Remember, the attendance patterns children show in the early years of schooling are the students most likely to show poor attendance at secondary school.  These patterns stay with us throughout life too so, it is best to develop good attendance early in your child’s schooling.

Missing 15 days per year, each year equates to an entire year off school by the time a child has finished their schooling.

Interviews

Parent/Teacher Interviews begin next week and run over 4 nights. March 1st and 2nd, and March 7th and 8th.  These are a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and talk about the goals set for your child in their Personal Education Plan.  Please be sure to book via SENTRAL.

3 New Flags

Thanks to Peta Murphy’s office for our 3 brand new flags for 2023.  Our school captains have done a wonderful job getting these up each day and learning about some of the protocols associated with raising and lowering flags.  Did you know: The Australian flag is to be raised first and lowered last? Or that you are not supposed to leave flags up over night unless they are illuminated? Or that the Australian flag should be on the left of the people it is facing?  Just some of the things our captains have been learning about!

Uniform

Our uniform is looking brilliant.  Thanks to all those that replaced the logo socks with plain black or white socks and those that continue to wear red, black or white shoes.  Remember only plain black shorts are part of our uniform. Not shorts with trimming or logos.

Have a great fortnight,

Mark Moorhouse
