Adam Verrell

February 2023

Introducing Adam Verrell who will be teaching Mathematics and Physical Education.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

For the holidays… I like the sound of my own voice…I actually see the world as a chance to learn new things and I enjoy teaching, coaching and helping where I can.

Plus, the holidays really are great!

How long have you been in the teaching game?

30 years

What was your last place of employment - school/university or another organisation?

Lyndhurst Secondary College, I was there for 26 years…time for a change.

What do you love most about teaching?

Being able to help others…Being part of a team…Seeing the end product of my teaching.

What has been one of your best teaching moments?

Teaching my son to potty train by the age of 1!

Brilliant and definitely my best teaching moment.

What would be 3 things that you would like your students to know about you?

  1. There is only one football team worth following and they wear black and white. Go Pies!
  2. I have 3 children myself. A girl and two boys.
  3. I am always interested in hearing about anyone’s life, their interests etc… I look grumpy however I’m very friendly.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

Wherever my caravan takes me in Australia (the best country to travel around). Overseas it would be Vancouver/Whistler as I love skiing.

What TV show/series did you last binge watch?

I’m a little behind the times, however I just finished Stranger Things.

If you could wear Harry’s invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do?  That’s Harry Potter’s cloak not Harry Ruff’s cloak 😊

Funnily enough I worked with Harry Potter for the last 5 years. He was a lovely bloke from Huddlersfield in England and a great PE teacher. He actually never did let me wear his coat though! Maybe he wasn’t so lovely after all. In fact, I think if I got to wear it I would go to his new school and taunt him all day for never giving me the opportunity to wear his invisibility coat, hmmm.

What is the one piece of ‘advice’ or the one thing that you always say to your students?

Try, try and try again and if all else fails, fake it till you make it!

Thank you, and welcome to Mullauna College, Adam!
