Anthony Cotton

February 2023

Introducing Anthony Cotton who will be teaching English and Humanities.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I thought it would be a great way to help young people learn, develop new skills, and hopefully have a positive influence of future generations – I also don’t enjoy working during January!

How long have you been in the teaching game?

I have been teaching since 2005 – I believe that makes this my 19th year as a teacher – although I did take a year off teaching in 2022.

What was your last place of employment - school/university or another organisation?

Before starting at Mullauna College this year, I worked at Wantirna College.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love seeing kids fall in love with learning and discovering new things – I also love getting out on excursions, sports and camps and enjoying new experiences with my students.

What has been one of your best teaching moments?

One of my favourite moments during my teaching career was walking Kings Canyon in the Northern Territory in a pair of Crocs with 120 Year 11 students.

What would be 3 things that you would like your students to know about you?

  1. I absolutely love music, and even consider myself an amateur DJ.
  2. I’m passionate about most sports – especially AFL football (Go Tigers), basketball and cricket and I coach an Under 11s basketball team.
  3. I’m a dad – I have two boys (Tommy and Joey) and a little girl (Billie), and they keep me very busy.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

I love spending time camping in my caravan at Wandiligong, which is a beautiful small town just outside of Bright, Victoria (approximately 4 hours from Melbourne). However, if international flights weren’t so expensive at the moment, I would love the chance to return to Paris, France – which is probably my all-time favourite city.

What TV show/series did you last binge watch?

Having three little kids, I don’t get a lot of time to watch shows for myself – the TV is usually on Mr Beast or Bluey. However, being a massive horror buff, I did watch Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Cabinet of Curiosities,’ which was pretty scary and pretty good.

If you could wear Harry’s invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do? That’s Harry Potter’s cloak not Harry Ruff’s cloak 😊

I think I would spend the time playing practical jokes on Mr McMillin and Mr Bray.

What is the one piece of ‘advice’ or the one thing that you always say to your students?

If you liked school, you’ll love work.

Thank you, and welcome to Mullauna College, Anthony!
