Gloria Cheung

February 2023

Introducing Gloria Cheung who will be teaching English.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I decided to become a teacher because I am passionate about helping youth develop and mature not just academically but as people who are able to contribute back to society with their skills and character.

How long have you been in the teaching game?

This year is my fourth year of teaching.

What was your last place of employment - school/university or another organisation?

I was previously teaching at East Doncaster Secondary College.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love being able to connect with my students individually, and build meaningful student-teacher relationships.

What has been one of your best teaching moments?

One of my best teaching moments was when I received a big thank you card last year in 2022, on International Teachers Day by my first Year 7 class which I taught in 2021. It was touching to see that I had a lasting impact on them and that they still appreciated me a year later.

What would be 3 things that you would like your students to know about you?

  1. I recently found out that I am INFJ based on the Myers-Briggs personality test, which apparently is one of the rarest personalities.
  2. I love watching shows that are of the dystopian genre or are associated with monster verse.
  3. My childhood dream was to become a palaeontologist.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

Taiwan.

What TV show/series did you last binge watch?

Wednesday.

If you could wear Harry’s invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do? That’s Harry Potter’s cloak not Harry Ruff’s cloak 😊

If I could wear Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak for one day, I would want to play harmless pranks on my friends and family or scare them.

What is the one piece of ‘advice’ or the one thing that you always say to your students?

One thing I always say to my students is, ‘you can do it’.

Thank you, and welcome to Mullauna College, Gloria!
