CAPA Faculty

The Creative and Performing Arts faculty have enjoyed a very successful and fulfilling term in the classroom, on the stage and in the community. This year is collectively a year that the staff of CAPA are looking to enjoy purpose, significance and most importantly, students' confidence, sense of identity and personal growth. School can often feel like a place where time management and deadlines take precedence over the simple joy of learning about ourselves and others. While this is often the case and difficult to avoid at times, taking stock of the amazing talents and abilities of our creative students gives pause to reflect upon why we do what we do in the classroom.

Each year, through a range of circumstances including reflecting and analysing success in the HSC, the CAPA staff refine these directions as our guiding principles in all activities that take place. HSC success begins with learning and nurturing in Year 7  when we first meet our new students. The guiding directions we are taking are as follows:

To enhance and nurture students' awareness of their connection to their community and audience through their major works.

Develop and enhance a focus on how language relates to all experiences within each course.

This term, students from all years have been able to participate in the Creative and Performing Arts in their own unique ways through events such as:

  • A Central Vision Art Exhibition at the Gosford Regional Gallery
  • NextGen Art Exhibition at Newcastle University
  • Art Express Excursion to the NSW Art Gallery
  • Students Successful in Application to Starstruck
  • Celebration Assembly Performances
  • Year 7Y Music Performance with Applied Learning ‘Cat In The Hat’
  • Drama Club Every Thursday Morning
  • Introduction of Drama with Primary Students at Gosford Public School
  • Our many lunchtime Rock Bands
  • Concert Band Wednesday Mornings
  • Extensive Music Tuition on Guitar, Voice, Piano and Percussion

Some individual success to be highlighted this term would be Nathan Murphy receiving 1st Place in his age group at A Central Vision and Charlotte Hodgins who took out the ‘Curators Choice Award’ at the Newcastle University NextGen Art Exhibition.

As always, this does not happen without the dedication of the CAPA staff across Music, Drama, Visual Art and Photography. Thanks to Lisa Wright, Jen Court, Gemma Lucca, Mary Gillard and Janelle Wilkinson whose work is celebrated through the photographs of students and their work.
