This term Year 7’s Applied Learning assignment was to create a digital portfolio. A digital portfolio is a way for us to show our skills and the things we are interested in, and focus on the 5C’s:
7H, 7N and 7R presented their digital portfolios to our Careers Adviser Mrs Cortaville-Smith. 7E and 7Y hosted an afternoon to share their digital portfolios with their class teachers.
For the second half of the term, each class has been working on a collaborative project. 7E and 7Y are rehearsing for their class play ‘Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Book’ and ‘The Cat in the Hat’, to be performed in Week 9 for a parent audience.
While 7E and 7Y worked on their plays, 7H, 7N and 7R have been busy designing, prototyping and building board games. Each team has created a rule book along with their game and have been focusing on learning how to communicate and work together as a team while they create their games. Classes are working towards a game day in Week 9 where they will all get to play each other's finished board games.

Who knew that plants love coffee?
This term Year 8 have been working hard on our Applied Learning project: how can we save water in the garden?
We have been researching and discovering intriguing ways to save water, such as coffee grounds. Did you know that only 3% of all the earth’s water is fresh? Plants and agriculture use 70% of our water. After experimenting on plants, we have come up with sustainable growing methods that have proven to make plants stronger, healthier and most importantly, tastier. Our hard work has led up to HKHS’ garden market, which happened on the 22 March, successfully raising $200 selling our plants. This money was donated to World Vision Australia. Students had the opportunity to discover our amazing work, and end up with a plant grown with sustainable methods, or even their own wormery, for use in houses.
Congratulations to all Year 8 students who worked passionately towards this important goal, and thank you to all students who supported our project this term.
