PDHPE Faculty

The PDHPE Faculty have been impressed with the application and consistent effort shown by all students throughout Term 1 in their respective PDHPE courses. Term 1 is often filled with a variety of extra-curricula activities within our faculty areas and an unprecedented number the students have taken up these opportunities.

Year 7 have begun the year well and have been engaged in a unit on change. This unit aims to support students with their transition to high school and build upon their knowledge of support networks.

Year 8 have been enhancing their knowledge and understanding of nutrition, exercise and sleep behaviours and how these contribute to good health. This learning has been supported in the practical components of the course with student have been building upon their fundamental movement skills.

Year 9 have been learning about identity and culture and how these factors can influence their health behaviours. This unit has culminated with students evaluating their own components of fitness and proposing ways to overcome barriers and incorporate physical activity into their current lifestyle.

Year 10 have emersed themselves into a unit exploring nutrition science. The unit has been incorporated to help deepen the students’ knowledge and understanding about why nutrition matters and the effects our choices have on our overall health. The students should be proud of their application and engagement in what is a challenging unit.

Students undertaking Stage 5 PASS have been exploring the preparations that athletes can employ to enhance sporting performance. The unit has a focus on pre, during and post exercise nutrition and fuelling for sporting competitions as well as components of effective training.

Students undertaking our Stage 6 Courses (PDHPE, CAFS and SLR) have started the year with maturity and diligence. As a faculty, we have been extremely impressed with the level of engagement and the work ethic shown by the students. As students submit and receive feedback from their assessment tasks, we encourage the students to read and implement the feedback and suggestions given to further build upon their progress.

Outside the classroom, the PDHPE Faculty have facilitated the delivery of the school and zone swimming carnivals, inter-school knockout teams in touch football, cricket, soccer, basketball and volleyball, a before-school resistance training program for senior girls and an externally run alcohol education workshop with Year 8 students. These opportunities have been taken up by many students and we have been pleased to see the students continuing to build upon their skills and knowledge. Our knockout teams have competed with mixed results with wins and losses. We would like to wish both boys and girls volleyball teams the best of luck with their 2nd and 3rd round games.

Term 2 will continue to provide more opportunities for students with junior basketball, netball and OzTag competitions taking place. The school and zone cross country and athletics carnivals will also take place throughout Term 2.

We hope that all students and their families have a safe and enjoyable Easter break and look forward to the opportunities ahead in Term 2.
