Wellbeing & Culture

CHPS Wellbeing Officer

This week I realised that though I have been here for a few years now, some of our newer families may not know who I am, so I thought I would introduce myself to any new families.

Fun facts:  I, Cheyenne…

  • was born in the U.S. and am a dual citizen
  • have no family in the U.S. (all Australian)
  • grew up in a Native American community (but not indigenous by blood)
  • love and studied a little musical theatre
  • had an educational focus on international studies
  • hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
  • hold a Masters of Science in Restorative Practices
  • have loved living local in the Croydon/Croydon Hills area and working with CHPS for the last few years!

As Wellbeing Officer, I am here to…

  • support the overall wellbeing of the CHPS community in growing and new ways all the time
  • help embed restorative (healthy relational community) practices into CHPS culture
  • support students with conflict resolution tools and healthy relationship-building skills
  • work with staff, parents and students to ensure wellbeing needs are met
  • work with students in classes, small groups and sometimes 1:1, to address emotional or relational concerns as they come up
  • promote and organise wellbeing speakers, programs and events
  • consult with parents and staff when wellbeing or behavioural concerns for a student arise
  • support a few CHPS students 1:1 ongoing for a period of time with parent/ guardian permission

I am so lucky to be in this community, where everyone cares about wellbeing and overall health of our community!  If anyone is ever keen to get in touch with me to discuss any of the above feel free to shoot me an e-mail: Cheyenne.Mason@education.vic.gov.au

Camp anxieties

Year 6s are going on camp soon, and there is always a little bit of worry for parents and students around the first camp of the year.  I have included some articles below to support some deep breaths of assurance in this time of nerves and anticipation:
