Congratulations to all boys and staff involved in both of these liturgies happening last week. Despite extreme heat the boys rose to the occasion each time commencing the year with some outstanding music.

Co-curricular Music at Marist College Ashgrove

Our continued thanks to all families and students, for what has been a great start to the year for all aspects of Music at Marist College Ashgrove. The term has commenced successfully, with instrumental lessons and ensemble rehearsals truly underway. A reminder to all new students of the College, that it is not too late to join one of the College’s Co-curricular Music Ensembles. If you have learnt an instrument before or are interested in joining one of the College’s vocal ensembles (choirs), please email the Music Department at music@marash.qld.edu.au to express your interest and the music staff will assist in allocating you to an appropriate ensemble. It is also not too late to commence instrumental lessons for 2023, the College caters for students of all levels (beginner to advanced) on a range of instruments. Please drop into Music Reception to pick up an enrolment form or email the Music Department for more information. The 2023 Concert Season will commence on Tuesday the 21st of February, with Internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Joshua Breakstone performing in a lunchtime concert, soon followed by the Premier Ensemble Concert on Thursday 2 March.

Lunchtime Concert

On Tuesday 21 February the Music Department will welcome international jazz artists Joshua Breakstone (guitar) for a lunchtime concert. The free concert is part of a series that will be open to the community throughout the year and be held in the Colleges Experimental Theatre. A fine bop-based guitarist, Joshua Breakstone discovered jazz when he was 14. He attended Berklee, and in 1977, toured Canada making his recording debut recording release. During and after teaching guitar at the Rhode Island Conservatory of Music Breakstone worked in New York with Warne Marsh, Emily Remler and Vic Juris, Barry Harris and Kenny Barron.

  • Thursday 2 March, 6:30 PM, Premier Concert (Symphony; Wind Orchestra 1; Guitar Orchestra 1; Chamber Strings; Chamber Choir; Big Band 1)
  • Thursday 16 March, 6:30 PM,  Autumn Concert (Senior Strings; Guitar Orchestra 2; Performance Choir; String Ensemble; Guitar Ensemble)
  • Thursday 23 March, Two Performances: 5:00pm and 6:00pm, Year 5 Musical (All Year 5 students)
