Boarding Recreation - Mr Blair Whitlock

The weekend kicked off with possibly the biggest Boarders Arvo Feast that we have ever seen! Thanks very much to Tanya Roberts for organising this and getting so many parents involved. There are over 100 parents from the Marist community who have signed up to help with these fortnightly afternoon teas and it is greatly appreciated by all the boys and staff in boarding!

A group of our loudest and proudest headed over to Yeronga for the AFL 1st teams game against a quality Villanova side. It was a brilliant game to watch as the boys clawed back an early deficit in the second and third quarters. The game went down to the final kick with Villanova marking the ball right on full-time and kicking the winning goal from deep. A gutting finish to a 50-50 game but it was great to see so many boarders playing, including year 10 boarder, Liam Rice, who made his debut for the prems.

Saturday sport was equally as close except both premier cricket and volleyball managed to win their games against Villanova. The courtside bleachers were packed with boarders for the volleyballers thrilling 3-2 win. The game went right down to the wire with the Marist boys claiming a 15-13 win in the final set to seal the match.

On Saturday afternoon all the Years 7-9 boys and a group of older boarders headed into Southbank for our first social of the year with Somerville House. They’ve built some great friendships over the last year or so and enjoyed a BBQ dinner together before the pool party. Meanwhile, a group of 15 boys headed to Mt Gravatt for the final NBL game of the regular season. The Brisbane Bullets were playing the NZ Breakers in another game that went down to the final seconds. After one period of overtime, the mighty Breakers pipped the Bullets to a 80-75 in. It’s a cracking atmosphere at the basketball and we’ll look to attend a couple of games in term four when the season starts up again.

Sunday was all about Mud. The whole boarding house was up bright and early and headed down to the Numinbah Valley for our 2023 Raw Challenge Mud Run. It was another brilliant day with the boys getting stuck in and helping each other through the 60+ obstacles on the course. Pictures are far more descriptive than my words so please see the photos below!
