And may we always remember           To pray for one another

May our loving God, with Mary and Champagnat, walk with all members of the Marist family. Amen

College Inaugural Mass

On Friday 3 February students and families gathered in the Champagnat Centre for the Inaugural Mass to come together as a Marist College Ashgrove community, a Marist Family, a Catholic Community, The Body of Christ and dedicate the year’s work as a faith community. We were honoured to have the Auxiliary Bishop of Brisbane, Ken Howell as our Celebrant.

In our gathering celebration we initiated our Year 12 students as our College leaders for 2023 along with our Boarding and Primary School Leaders. Our Year 5 students were also warmly welcomed with a Marist key ring, inviting them into this Marist family.

Our Marist theme for this year and for our Eucharistic Celebration is Created and called- a revolution of love and tenderness.

“Be who God created you to be and you will set the world on fire.”

These words from St Catherine of Siena express a desire to be our deepest and truest selves in response to being known and loved by a God who, as theologian Herbert McCabe says beautifully, is “helplessly and hopelessly in love with us”.

God’s love changes us. It ignites the flame of desire in our hearts to be God’s love in the world. It ignites a revolution, a revolution fuelled by God’s love!

We are excited to be part of this faith community and look forward to celebrating often and with joy, but perhaps with lower temperatures!

AIC Ecumenical Service

Marist College Ashgrove was honoured to host and celebrate, as an ecumenical Community, the start of the AIC season in its 25th year with a liturgy. The Heads of Colleges, Executive Assistants to the Heads of Colleges, Heads of Mission, Heads of Sport and accompanying staff members joined with student leaders from the eight AIC Colleges to gather in prayer.

Each College sent a symbol that represents to the student body of 2023 an aspect of the College’s life.

Here at Marist, we used the Marist Heart. Our founder is known to have placed the names of Brothers who had been sent off on Mission around the world into the heart as a symbol that they were being held in the hearts of Jesus and Mary and remembered in prayer. As we celebrate 25 years of an AIC relationship, Marist Ashgrove was pleased to gift to each of the AIC Colleges a Marist Heart, a symbol of ongoing fraternity, and the prayers, intentions, deeds and works into the living heart of Jesus and Mary.

To be who God created us to be means to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. It means using our talents and strengths to do good and to want good for ourselves and our neighbours.

We began our liturgy and our sporting year knowing that we have been created and called by our God.
