Deputy Head of College News

Mr Charles Brauer

Who Cares?

We care. Care of the whole-person is the key tenant of Catholic education. Care is at the heart of Marist education. Care is the word which has resonated in the Draney Theatre and Champagnat Centre across community gatherings this past week.

Whilst sitting with our 1st XI on the weekend waiting for the rain to clear I was struck with who was there. Extra to the parents of players, I saw siblings, Old Boys, friends of the College, siblings, and teachers. Without having any particular duty or obligation to be there, these people where there because they cared. They cared about witnessing and celebrating the participation of our young men and they cared about sharing this with others in our Marist Family. Upon chatting to the teacher to understand what brought him to the game, he simply said “It’s just what we do.”

Whilst it may seem obvious within a school-setting to care for and be present with the young people we educate, we must ensure we never lose sight of the tremendous amount of conscious and unconscious time and energy our community willingly contributes to ensuring a culture of care permeates all we do at the College.

Caring for the whole and full development of a person differentiates our Catholic and Marist model of education from any other. “It’s just what we do”, to steal a phrase from my teaching peer. Care has presented itself in many real and tangible ways this week; Academic Monitoring in Pastoral Groups, Year 13 students support new students to the College, our P&F’s Marist Support Program in action, Year 7s heading off to camp with their Heads of House and teachers, the Old Boys’ Association gathering for their AGM, the return and acknowledgment of 2022 seniors who excelled with their studies. All of these are wonderful and real ways we demonstrate and cultivate care in our Marist Family.

Thank you for caring. Care is the currency of relationships with our Marist Family, a currency which can’t be exchanged for any other.

Drop-off and Pick-up Safety

The designated drop-off and pick-up points for students are at our Moola Road entrance and along Grevillea Road. The Glenlyon Drive bridge entrance and internal drop-off and pick-up is for MCA Swimming only. If accessing the grounds for MCA Swimming, please ensure you drive with care and caution when in the car park as there are likely to be young people moving about.

Please remind boys that if for any reason, they are not picked up after school, they should go to the Health Centre and wait for a parent to arrive. The staff there are able to look after the boys and make every effort to contact parents.

Co-Curricular Photos

Co-curricular photos for cricket and volleyball will occur in the Science foyer this Saturday before fixtures in the Foyer of the Science Centre. Players must be in the correct Team Wear to be included in the photo. A photo schedule will be emailed to parents of team members and posted on the College App this week. Ensuring your child arrives in plenty of time prior to the scheduled photo time will assist us greatly in getting teams to their games on time.

Photos will be available for purchase. More detail regarding this process will follow in due course.
