Physical Education

We have had a wonderful start to physical education, working on team buliding, cooperation, stamina and of course having fun!

The students in grade 3 and 4 worked in small groups to collect bean bags scattered around the basketball court. It required patience, communication and teamwork.

Visual Arts

Collaborative Artwork

Paper Collage

In Visual arts we began the year making a whole school collaborative artwork.

The quilt is inspired by the artwork of Textile artist Libs Elliot. Libs makes the most amazing quilts using a limited colour palette and simple shapes.  For our quilt each student in the school designed their own square using just triangles and four colours only.

The squares were then put together to achieve a fantastic result. Well done everyone!

STEAM

In Prep, the students continued to look at movement.  They explored involuntary and voluntary movements by observing their partners while playing musical statues. We then explored movements in the classroom and the garden; fans and clocks move in the classroom; butterflies, plants and leaves move in the garden.

The grade 1s and 2s continue to investigate pushes and pulls. They looked at which toys use push and pull movements and where the toys might be used. For example, we had planes in the air, cars on the ground, and ducks on water!  We further explored pushes and pulls in the classroom and in the kitchen. Oven knobs can be pushed and doors can be pulled and pushed.

In grade 3 and 4, they have investigated objects that are attracted by magnets. They also explored friction by placing different materials between a magnet and a paperclip.

Grade 5/6S have been exploring light sources, what makes shadows, and how light rays travel in straight lines. They have used torches to create shadows and to represent how the light helps us to see.

In each STEAM class, the students have worked collaboratively and have shown excellent skills in working with different people.

French

In Year 1, the students have prepared their notebook front covers and have used sentences  to introduce themselves.  Jasmine, Eliza and Evie volunteered to read their pages.

In Year 4, the students used the expressions 'j'aime' (I like), 'j'adore' (I love) and  'je n'aime pas' (I don't like) to express some preferences.
