Welcome Back to School Picnic
The temperature dropped, but the energy and enthusiasm was still high at our Welcome Back to School event. It was fantastic to see so many school families and children join us for a fun-filled evening of fairy floss, popcorn, slushies and snags. Thank you to the Year 3 Parent Reps and helpers for organising the event.
Ash Wednesday - Beginning of the Season of Lent
Last Wednesday we celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass and the beginning of the Season of Lent. As we begin Lent, we are reminded that Lent is a special time, where we examine our inward relationship with Jesus and attempt to walk more closely with him. During this time we look at ways where we can be more 'hospitable' to others, through alms giving, prayer and fasting. We were marked with ashes and reminded to ‘Turn to God and be a person of prayer’. Father John explained that being a person of prayer doesn’t require too much of us, just a little time spent each day is a good practice to begin with (young or old).

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Director's eNews - Catholic Education News
Over the last year, seven-year-old Leza Solovei has made a successful transition from being a student in Ukraine to being elected class captain at Sacred Heart School, Kew.
Leza enrolled in the school in April 2022 after fleeing Ukraine with her mother. The school supported Leza by waiving her school fees, providing a uniform and helping her learn English. Leza’s story of determination at the school was featured in The Age on 21 February.
Sacred Heart School is one of many Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne supporting refugees from the conflict in Ukraine. The experience of students supported by Mother of God School, Ardeer, and Stella Maris School, Beaumaris, was profiled in an SBS News story last year.
Mandarin Day
Mandarin Day will take place next Thursday 9 March as we celebrate and embrace Chinese culture. The day will involve all students and staff involved in a number of different activities. These activities include Chinese dancing, Chinese traditional games and Chinese craft. Students are encouraged to dress in clothing that has some Chinese cultural elements. This could be a formal Chinese costume or clothing that incorporates the colours red and gold. We will also be introducing a special Chinese food experience for the students consisting of 3 mini dims, 3 mini vegeatable spring rolls and a fortune cookie. An Operoo order form was sent to all families with ingredients and allergy information indicating whether your child will be enjoying these special treats.
