OSHC News

Our Reconciliation Action Plan has been published on the Narragunnawali website and Magill OSHC is proudly working towards the Reconciliation actions. Last week was Culture Week and the entire OSHC engaged in a picnic on the oval on the 15th anniversary of the formal apology that our Prime Minister made to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Children also tried lemon myrtle tea which is a recipe used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This was an opportunity for educators to start a conversation and answer the outstanding questions that the students had.

Last week the reception group focused on sharing different music and cultural backgrounds. The junior group made lemon myrtle cookies and the middle group made biscuits with the Aboriginal flag on it, as well as designing their own sports jerseys. The upper-primary group used the week to discover different songs from various cultures, as well as a flags quiz which the children did extremely well in!

The weekly theme this week is the Performance, Acting, Comedy and Music, and the reception and junior group are uncovering different talents such as body percussion and cooking (food xylophone). The middle group are doing a talent show and disco. The upper-primary are finding out the groups talents in the kitchen and through our debate club. The children will be debating over topics such as: Justin Bieber is better than Harry Styles, reading a book is better than movies, and phone calls are better than texting.

Lemon Myrtle Tea Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups water

8 fresh/dried lemon myrtle leaves

5cm piece of ginger (peeled and sliced)

2 teaspoons of honey

Method

Bring water to the boil, add lemon myrtle leaves, honey and simmer for 5 minutes.

Turn off heat, cover and allow to steep further 10 minutes to allow the flavours to infuse. Strain and serve.

Carpark Reminder

We would like to remind families that the OSHC carpark is strictly for staff only - unless you require disability parking. This is for any time of the day, and all-weather conditions. This is due to safety concerns to ensure that no children are walking through the carpark with reversing cars and to avoid congestions with school and OSHC staff arriving/leaving for the day.

We have also noticed some parents speeding into the carpark which is extremely unsafe.

There is ample parking available on Magill Road as well as at The Tower Hotel, so please park there and enter via the gate and pathway when dropping off or collecting your child/ren from OSHC.
