Leadership Report

Welcome back!

The 2023 school year is now well underway with a smooth and successful start being seen in all classrooms. Personally, it has been lovely visiting all our new classes over the past few weeks and seeing such calm, settled and positive learning environments. These initial foundations and climates that have been created, fostered and developed by all teachers and students will pave the way for an incredibly successful year ahead.

Many thanks to all parents and caregivers for attending our Acquaintance Night and Governing Council AGM sessions in week 3. There was great participation at school on the evening and we are sure these events have both provided wonderful insights into classes and the school. We also wish to thank all our teachers for their hard work to put these vital sessions together for our community... there is a lot of work that goes into making it all possible, so thank you!

As a school, we are constantly striving and looking for ways in which we can improve and offer new ways of doing things. In the coming weeks, the Parent Engagement Committee will issue a survey to all families about our recent Acquaintance Night to gauge your thoughts and ideas. We will use this information with feedback from all teachers to look at how we offer this in 2024.

We also wish to remind parents about opportunities to join our Governing Council sub-committees. Please also have a look in the Governing Council News section within this edition of the newsletter for all of this information and how you can play a pivotal role in working with the school. If you are interested in joining any of our sub-committees, please email the Committee delegate by Friday 10th March, 2023.

Finally, please also have a good look at the Dates to Remember section which lists key dates we have finalised to this point. In particular, I wish to draw your attention to two upcoming Pupil Free Days that we now have approved for Term 2.

Monday 1st May, 2023  - Numeracy Focus

The Numeracy Committee has engaged with Mike Chartres from the Primary Mathematics Association of South Australia to continue his partnership with the school through providing staff with professional learning. The Pupil Free Day will see Mike working with staff on differentiating the mathematics curriculum to meet student needs and how to extend students conceptual thinking and application of skills.

Monday 15th May, 2023 - Partnership Focus

The Morialta Partnership is hosting Douglas Fisher, an international renown speaker and Professor of Educational Leadership at the San Diego State University. The day will focus on 'How Feedback Works'. This captures very practically the newest research about feedback. It will build on from the work we are doing at Magill and provide purpose and context in implementing Learning Intentions and Success Criteria.

We are really looking forward to both days and the opportunity to continue our learning improvement journey as a staff.

I look forward to another great year ahead and working with all students and families.
