Refurbishment

Whilst our basketball courts were being resurfaced, work behind the scenes on our library refurbishment has been progressing well.

The usual solitude of the library has over the past few months, been replaced with lots of noisy activity, but we are very excited to be nearing completion.

To ensure our library remained functional for teaching staff, our newly dedicated back-office area was created first. This area now provides a more convenient teacher work area and frees up the library floor space. A secondary dedicated librarian workstation has also been created.

In the lead-up to the summer break, much work was done to sort and temporarily store all the thousands of books so that existing shelving could be dismantled in preparation for the painting. During the break, the two old windows leading to our beautiful Japanese Garden were replaced with double sliding doors, increasing airflow, and natural light and making the outside more accessible for everyone.

The new floorplan for the library makes for a more convenient and efficient use of space. In keeping with our environmental consciousness, we have been able to recycle much of the existing shelving. Unwanted pieces have been relocated within our school classrooms, our school community, a local school, and a local community centre.

Last week, the new furniture was delivered and along with much of the existing recycled shelving, work is now underway to instal and place it into position. Martina and her many helpers have been labelling books and preparing the stored books for the new shelves.

This week, much activity will continue as we put the final touches to the refurbishment.

In the meantime, a sneak peek with some before and after pics.
