VISUAL ARTS NEWSLETTER - TERM 2
The theme Between 2 Worlds: Reality v’s Illusion has continued to be our inspiration in the art room during second term. Students reviewed M C Escher’s works in order to complete their tessellations pieces.
The main focus then became printmaking. Students learnt about this art form and used artist Andy Warhol as inspiration. They applied their knowledge of patterns and use of colours to create their own print on paper.
Junior school students used a piece of foam with their own drawn image using a grey lead pencil and paint to print. Senior school students began working on their printmaking by designing images in their sketch books. Some began using a soft cut carving block and a carving tool to create their image. Once students have carved their image, they will be using specific textas to design their patterns and then print on paper.
Many students from 5/6C also had the privilege of participating in art workshops about community and belonging, run by Professor Anna Hickey-Moody (Project Leader) and her team from RMIT. These students will also be working with the same team later in the year.
All students continued to extend their knowledge of the Fitzroy Primary School Expectations Matrix and apply this in the art room. Understanding and displaying respect, courage and empathy are important values at the school.
High-five stickers and the Marble Jar Reward system are used in the art room.
The winners of the marble jar reward system for Term 2 is 5/6C. Congratulations for a great effort!
Well done to all classes. Looking forward to Term 3.
