Year 9 Industry Tours
Over five days at the end of last term, the Pathways Team have delivered 11 industry tours for year nine students. Each tour is a one day off campus experience during which students visit a training institution and/or workplace based on their area of interest. This year our tours covered health and medical, animal studies, sport science, game design/animation/audio, engineering, art/design/photography, naval gazing, fashion, hair/beauty, law/psychology/business and building/construction. Each tour was tailored to give students information on what’s involved in various courses, career opportunities, hands-on time with equipment and training facilities and a tour of campus surrounds.
The industry tours are exciting days offering students unique opportunities to explore various locations and ask questions about future career paths. Big thanks goes to each of the teachers who led the days and the various venues for hosting our students.
RSA Training. 15th August 2019
25 students participated in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training delivered by iTAFE. Each achieved their certificate at the completion of the day which is another valuable asset when job seeking.
White Card Training. 29th August 2019
In order to work on building and/or construction sites a “white card” is required. This certifies completion of the “Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry” course and is required Australia-wide. Year 9 - 12 students looking for work experience, a structured work placement (VCAL/VET) or a pathway into areas such as building, electrical, plumbing, etc. will require a White Card. MSC arranges this training which is delivered on campus by the CFMEU, the August session was again fully subscribed.
Year 12 Support
With the end of 2019 approaching quickly there has been much activity amongst the year 12 group. Regular emails have and will be sent directly to our current year 12s over this term and into 2020 with links to VTAC updates, job vacancies, etc. and to follow up if further assistance is required.
