Book Review #1

Amaan HAIDER (7F)

This book is inspired by the author’s Moroccan heritage about a poor girl who must become a body double of a princess of a ruthless empire.  It’s a world which is dominated by the terrifying and brutal Vathek empire.

An 18 year old girl in this book called Amani is a dreamer.  She dreams about her life and what it was like before the occupation occurred.    I can tell the author / main character in this book loved poetry because it has a lot of it in this book.

The book was pretty interesting but long at the same time!  I could visualise all the scenes in this book.

I would rate this book 7.5 out of 10 !!!

The fork the witch and the worm by Christopher Paolini

This book contains three short stories from the famous author Christopher Paolini.  The first story talks about a fork given to a girl by a powerful sorcerer named Tornac.  The sorcerer has cast a spell on the fork so it is unbreakable.  The girl named Essie, uses the fork to poke Hjordis, who is a mean bully.

Second story:  The witch is a little girl called Elva who has had a curse cast upon her.  The curse enables her to see the darkest fearsof anyone’s minds.  Eragon is training Elva and showing her how to manipulate unwanted thoughts.

The final story is about the worm of Kulkaras:  The worm is actually a giant dragon known as Vermund the Grim.  Ever since he has arrived and killed Ilgra’s father, Ilgra has been seeking vengeance   But towards the end of the amusing tale, Ilgra starts to depend on Vermund to protect her clan from the two monstrosities that attacked the village.

I like this book because it contains adventure, mystery and excitement.

I would rate it 8 out of 10.
