Cross Country
It was great to hold our Inter-House Cross Country events on the School grounds this year. The students from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) ran with great enthusiasm on the big ovals and the Year 6 student helpers were most encouraging. We always appreciate our ELC parents coming along to support the event, and I thank you all for contributing to a great atmosphere. The afternoon event involved some great long distance running across all year groups. We congratulate all students for their care for each other and courage in competing in the Cross Country, no matter what their final place in the race. A big thank you to Primary Physical Education teacher, Mel Fowler for organising a wonderful Cross Country event.
Junior DaleFest
John Wollaston hosted the combined schools Junior DaleFest this year. Local school choirs visited John Wollaston to perform songs based on the theme of Unity and a celebration of 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages. It is always such a joy to see so many talented students from all schools performing with passion and skill. Thank you to Primary Music teacher, Jenny Coles, who played a major role in the organisation of the event and to our Years 2 and 3 Choir who performed brilliantly.
Lions Club Junior Public Speaking Competition
The inaugural Lions Club Junior Public Speaking Competition was held this morning. Congratulations to Tuppence Cornelius, Harjodh Kaur Joginder, Jothi Jothiraja and Roahan Senthilkumar for making the final stages of the competition. Both Tuppence and Jothi placed third in their respective year categories. Thank you to Year 6 teacher, Katherine Stevens and Deputy Principal Head of Primary Teaching and Learning, Fiona Currey for the coordination of this event. We look forward to the IPSHA Speakers’ Challenge for Years 3 and 4, to be held at Wesley College in August.
Environment Week
This week Primary students, under the direction of Year 6 Environment Captain Cheria Le Vaillant, celebrated World Environment Day with a week of activities aimed at increasing awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Students had some hands-on experiences planting seedlings and vegetables, collecting rubbish which was turned into an art installation and making pledges on leaves as to how we can help the environment.
Year 6 Environment Captain, Cheria said "I've always been quite passionate about the environment. I like art and I believe nature is quite like art itself. I love animals as they help us to find peace within ourselves and trees provide us with shade and oxygen, so we need to protect the environment because of everything it gives us."
