Prep News

Welcome to Prep 2019!

Last Thursday 31st January, 31 Prep students started their school journey full of enthusiasm and a little bit of nervousness, and they are quickly settling into the routines of school life. Today is Day 3 as we count towards 100 Days of Prep.

The Prep students enjoyed meeting their Grade 5/6 Buddies on Friday in the Senior Learning Area.

Over the coming weeks, our focus is to introduce the St Fidelis’ School Rules to the Prep students and to develop familiar routines. We would like all Prep students to be at school before the first bell rings at 8.45am so that they can be organised for the day ahead. Please encourage your child to be a Self Manager and allow them to organise their things and unpack their bag by themselves each morning.

The Prep teachers love to see parents and grandparents visiting the classrooms each day. The students enjoy showing and talking about their latest learning.

Year 1/2 News

Welcome back students, parents and friends. What a great start to term 1. The students have been very excited to see their friends and talk about the holidays.  They have settled into class routines very well and they are revisiting the school rules. The students have expressed their feelings about starting a new year, making new friends and learning new things. They have been learning about what makes a good classroom and a good friend. The students have been playing various games to get to know each other.  We teachers are also very excited to have started the year with your wonderful children.

Year 3/4 News

Welcome back to the families of Year 3/4. The students have arrived back to school with a positive attitude, excited to meet their new teachers and friends, and most importantly ready for learning. Throughout the week the students have been re-visiting the school rules and class expectations, talking about social awareness and how our actions affect others and unpacking the qualities and skills of a good learner. The students and teachers are enthusiastic to be back at school and cannot wait to see where the learning will take us this term.

This week I have enjoyed collecting data about our birthdays and each other and presenting it on a graph. I learnt that another word for data is information. Ava Brazel 3/4LM

I have enjoyed meeting my new teacher and friends at St Fidelis school. I know that this will be a fantastic year. Alice Hockey 3/4LM

We have learnt about bar graphs and how many people like blue, green and pink. I can’t wait to meet new friends too. Sanjay Culosi-Thiagu  3/4BF

It has been very exciting! New teacher, new class and new grade. On the first day we made a graph about our birthdays and another graph about our favourite hobbies. Caterina Cantiani 3/4 BF

This year is going to be a wonderful year! I’ve had a great start to 2019 - meeting my new teacher, making new friends and self-managing my learning.  Lola Zagami 3/4KD

A friendly reminder that students are required to wear the school hat from September through to

April and as the saying goes ‘No hat, no play, no fun today!’ 3/4KD and 3/4LM students will need to wear their sport uniforms each Monday and 3/4BF students will wear their sports uniforms on Wednesdays. All Year 3/4 students will also be required to wear their sport uniforms on Friday for Intra-school sports.

School diaries are to be brought to school every day. The students are to read each night and have their reading recorded in their school diaries, along with a parent or guardian’s signature. Developing a good home reading routine will help develop good study habits.

The Year 3/4 teachers are looking forward to working closely with the families in our year level this year.

Year 5/6 News

The Year 5/6 students have settled into the SLA very well and enjoyed getting to know each other in the first week of the 2019 academic year. They also loved meeting their prep buddies on Friday and showing them around the SLA.

We welcome Mr Graham Troy and Mr Mark MacGregor to the St Fidelis' community and the SLA as Year 5/6 teachers.

This Friday we have the school leaders assembly where all of the Year 6 leaders will be presented with their leadership pins. The Year 5/6 students also need to remember that they are all leaders of the school and they should aim to inspire and set a good example to the younger students.

In the upcoming weeks we have an ASPIRE incursion about team work and having a positive mindset and an excursion to CERES (Community Environment Park) about the four R's, rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle.

Please ensure that your child comes to school with a hat every day and that all of your child's items are labelled clearly.

We look forward to working with you in the education and learning progress of your child.
