Year 5 - NAPLAN 2017
NAPLAN
The Year 5 boys are currently in the process of sitting the NAPLAN tests. They sat Language Conventions and Writing yesterday and Reading today. Tomorrow they will do the Numeracy test. It is a one-off test but it does provide some data for parents and the College. As with all tests we encourage the boys to do their best, but not to stress. This photo was taken minutes before the Language Convention test and it appears the 'no stress' message is working for many of these boys.
TUESDAY MORNING MASS
On Tuesday morning at 8.00am a Mass was held in our Chapel. Well done to the Year 6 students who attended. There will be a Mass every fortnight - parents are welcome.
JUNIOR SCHOOL MOTHERS’ AND GRANDMOTHERS’ DAY MASS
On Friday 12th May the Junior School will be having a Mothers’ and Grandmothers’ Day Mass at 10.30am at Our Lady of Dolours’ Church in Chatswood. All the boys’ mothers and grandmothers are invited. At the conclusion of Mass we will have a morning tea for all the mothers and grandmothers (boys are not included in this morning tea). There will also be a Mothers' Day Stall if you would like your son to buy you something. All the goods are made by the ladies of Candela, a shanty town in Peru, and all the proceeds are returned to them. If you could have your son support this stall it would be very much appreciated by the women of Candela who are less fortunate than ourselves. This is a true example of a gift that gives twice.
CANDELA MISSION PERU – MOTHERS' DAY STALL
Mrs Mary Rajca visited today to speak to the students about the work of the Sisters of Mercy in the shanty town of Candela in Lima, Peru. The mission in Candela helps women through a program that teaches them to make beautiful handicrafts. The sale of these crafts give the women an income so they can provide for their families.
There will be a sale of these beautiful handicrafts on Friday 12th May following the Mothers' Day Mass. The goods will also be on sale during recess and lunchtime on this day for the boys to buy that special gift for their mum. All funds raised go back to the women who have made the goods and this money is used by the women to buy basic necessities for their families. Our school has supported the Candela Mission for many years and much has been done through our support to improve the lives of these women and their families. Your support of the Mission is greatly appreciated.

AFL: Another strong game by the SPX boys, this time against Trinity. It started with some strong marking and goal kicking by Matthew Hunt in his new position of full-forward but the game then became an entertaining match of team play. Tomo Wilkins was unstoppable in not allowing the ball to move into the opposition forward line and he was ably supported by Ned Turner. Any loose balls and clearances from the backs were quickly snapped up by the midfielders with Zac Hollinger's positional play being outstanding in getting the ball to the forwards. Some excellent shots at goal, especially the over-the-head play by Jesse Reed. Well done boys on another strong win!
Player Points: 3 – Tomo Wilkins 2- Zac Hollinger 1 – Ned Turner
We meet Waverley next Saturday so please be on time for a team warm up at 7:50am.
