Football

Dear Parents and Players,

It was a strong weekend of football against an impressive Oakhill opposition.  There were many outstanding performances which makes it too hard to split Team of the Week between the 4th XI for their 15-0 victory and the 16B for their 11-0 victory.

Player of the week goes to Zach Low of Year 7 who played in the 13D game, being named man of the match and then backed up for the 13C side and was nominated for points for his performance in the Cs as well.  An outstanding effort.

This weekend sees a combination of home and away fixtures against St Andrews. Good luck to all teams.

Grounds can be found at the following locations:

Walsh and Watkins:    1 Dreadnought Road, Oxford Falls.

Wentworth Park:         Wattle Street, Ultimo (Field is located inside the dog track)

St Andrews Oval:         Cadigal Lane, Camperdown.

Mason Park:                   Underwood Road, Homebush

FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS

Teams are still settling in with some great wins against Oakhill and others last week, but some of our teams are still struggling to find their mojo. The structured Coaching Program is now being rolled out across all senior age groups with our specialist coaching staff working with coaches to maximise the benefits.

The ‘Full Time’ senior weekly results flyer for Round 1 is on the Football Club website so check it out. We did not get many photos sent in from last week’s round so we ask that you support the committee and send in some shots this week.  Send your photos to footballspx@gmail.com   - save this to your phone and upload those photos as soon as you take them.

This week’s ‘Teams of the Week’ are 13B, 14A and 15B and parents of boys in these teams are asked to catch some shots of the boys in action and send them through.  We need the photos in by Sunday afternoon.

The committee is organising a Football Coaching Camp in the July holidays from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th July.   Bookings opening soon.

We wish all our teams good luck this weekend -  GO PIUS!!

FROM THE RUGBY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

It's not often that I report on our 16Bs but lately, with Mr Garvey's help, I have been working with the boys on Tuesday and Thursday. Our numbers at training are starting to grow. In Luke Psaila the Bs have a very positive and enthusiastic Captain who has a passion for the game. On Saturday we travelled to Knox and after a spirited first half we were down 21-5.  The boys at half–time really felt they could get back into the game.  Luke led from the front with some dynamic running and the team responded with tries from Ky, Satiri, Declan, Dowling and Connor Terry-Lloyd.

Although down to 13 men we led 25 -21 going into the final minute, only to concede a try on the bell and go down 26-25. This performance typified the St Pius X College spirit. If we can keep increasing the numbers at training the Bs will get some well-deserved wins. The As also turned in a top performance winning 22-5 with Paterson, Fassino and Marchant all on top form.

Elsewhere it was a 50/50 day. Our three Opens sides all won with Dominic Thrum turning in a dynamic running performance for the 1sts.

The 15As hit top gear again and are playing a very high octane brand of football, exhilarating to watch and making you wish you were young again … well you know what I mean! The 15Bs and Cs played against each other in an internal game.

13Bs had a solid win and when we move the ball quickly from the ruck we can beat anyone!  13As, 14As and 14Bs all had competitive losses to equally matched sides. Often the deciding factor is our technique at the ruck, especially against bigger and heavier opponents. We will work on this at training.

This week we make the pilgrimage to Bathurst. It's very important to start games well when you have been on a long journey so aim to do this and we will continue to go well.

ISA Tennis

Congratulations are very well-deserved to all our players for last Round’s games. Even if a win was not ultimately achieved by some teams, the gameplay, perseverance and enthusiasm shown by all players was impressive. Well done to Divisions 5 and 6 for winning their matches, as well as to Division 3 who only just missed out on a win by a few games within their match.

This weekend all teams will be playing against Central Coast Grammar School. See the draw details below.

Over the next few Rounds we will need some boys to play up in higher divisions. Please check your email for details.
