RoboCup State Competition UNSW

RoboCup Junior is an international competition that accommodates both primary and secondary school students. At St Pius X College many of our Robotics Club students compete in the Soccer league of this competition.

Earlier this Term St Pius X hosted a RoboCup event for over 170 students from as many as 20 schools. Last week we had 7 teams of students competing in the 3 different divisions of Soccer at the State competition held at the University of New South Wales. These Divisions of Soccer include:

  • Standard - Lego based robots with an infra-red soccer ball
  • Lightweight - non Lego robots with an infra-red soccer ball and
  • Heavyweight - non Lego robots with an orange coloured soccer ball

Each of these divisions has its own challenges and normally teams compete with two robots each; one offensive and one defensive. Our students have been working on the construction and programming of these robots over the past 12 months.  Congratulations to the following teams on their results:

  • Standard Soccer:  Clean Whistlers 13th, Synergy 16th and LamFam 20th place.
  • Lightweight Soccer:  Encryption
  • Heavyweight Soccer:  Celestial 4th, Peppa Pig 5th and Circuit Breakers 6th place.

A big thank you to Mr ten Seldam and Mr Lai for coaching and supervising this event and to Charlie Jackson and Matthew Felice for their assistance with mentoring the Standard Soccer teams. A thank you must also go to the P&F for their ongoing financial support of this worthwhile Club.
