Mission & Identity

Our Social Justice Project ‘Treat the Land’ (please refer to the Social Justice section below) has gained momentum and our many thanks to the families who are sending in items for the hampers for Coonabarabran. St Pius X College has always been known as a generous community and it is heartwarming to see the Touchstones of Justice and solidarity and Inclusive community come alive in our efforts to support the families of our farmers. The partnership we are building with Coonabarabran High School will also be a valuable experience for our students.

Last week the Year 12 students attended their Year 12 Retreat. The placement of the retreats immediately after the Trials is intentional and recognises the challenges of these exams and the opportunity for students to connect with their faith, peers and the strength needed to face the challenges of the next few months. We were very fortunate to have Father Jim McKeon attend the Mulgoa Retreats and celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist with students. My thanks to the many staff who gave so generously of their time to ensure the Retreat experiences ran smoothly:

  • Mulgoa:   Mr Batchelor, Mr Adrian Brannan, Ms Janes, Mr Reay, Mrs Guerrera and Mr Couani
  • Huntington House:  Mr Olson, Mr Casey, Mr McBrearty, Mr Rodgers and Ms Colefax
  • Tallows Beach:  Mr Sean Brannan, Ms Kugananthan and Mr Stollery

I ask that we continue to keep Year 12 in our prayers as they the approach the final weeks of their time at the College.

Chapel Mass - 4th September at 8am.  On Tuesday the 18th September, the Chapel Mass will be dedicated to Year 12.

Daffodil Day:  On Friday 24th August Year 8 students conducted their annual Daffodil Day collection in the Chatswood Mall and surrounding areas. Mr Yue and the boys assisted at the Daffodil Day stall with setting up, distribution and sales of their products to aid the Cancer Council.

The Edmund Rice Society Junior Chocolate stall has been selling chocolates each Friday at lunchtime  throughout the term with all proceeds going toward funding social justice projects within the Society. Last week at the Society meeting Luke Forwood spoke about childhood cancer and the need for greater awareness and education.
