Mathematics & Holidays

Year 9 5.1 Maths have been planning a summer holiday. Student's have been investigating the maths involved in budgeting and planning for an overseas holiday. They have investigated the costs involved from flights and accommodation, passports and travel insurance to planning food and daily activities. In groups or individually they have decided on a location to travel to, calculated the total cost involved for their stay, looked at time zones and currency conversions and planned the activities they would like to undertake. Student's developed an understanding of the need to plan and budget for holidays and the differences involved when dealing with currency exchanges when looking at budgets. They were not allocated a budget and some holidays reflected expensive tastes but most were quite realistic with their budgets.
