Rugby last Saturday at Oxford Falls vs Cranbrook
Dear Parents and Players,
Congratulations on a good start to the season. Team of the week has to be the 13Cs, not only for a commanding 11-0 win, but also the sportsmanship displayed by SPX players willingly playing for the opposition as they were short of players.
Congratulations must also go to the College 1st XI who defeated Trinity College last Wednesday night to progress through to the quarter finals of the NSWCIS Cup. They will now be travelling to Tamworth later this month and we wish them well.
This weekend sees many teams again at home. Fields can be found at the following locations:
Please see below this weekend’s times and venues and also the DRAFT home and away fixture list for the remainder of the season. Please note that this can change on a week to week basis and players must check the Woodchatta and the College App for the most up to date version.

From the Rugby Development Officer
For week two rugby, ditto week one
For a second week our 13s and 14s produced some thrilling rugby. I love the enthusiasm and willingness to keep running and supporting. Outworking your opponents challenges their resolve and it’s then when you capitalise on their mistakes.
Elsewhere we remain very competitive across all age groups. We now have to convert those periods of pressure into points when we are in our opponents 22. Narrow losses can easily become narrow wins with good technique, pressure and composure.
So good to see three Opens teams running around. The numbers at training have been very good also, and that contributes to enjoyment on game day.
Our young Opens 1st came up against a more mature Cranbrook side and although we competed well, weight of possession took its toll. This is going to be a challenging season for our young side, many of whom have emerged from a hugely successful 16s team. Now they are beginning to understand how important mental toughness is and how attention to detail can greatly improve both individual and team performance.
One thing is for sure, you can’t wait for results to turn around or look at the fixture list for an easy game. From now on every point has to be earned!!
On the training field multi-phase continuity practices will help keep everyone concentrating and working hard off the ball. If the forwards are struggling to produce ball, then the backs have to do it through effective first up tackling, followed by immediate support from the nearest support tackler. Every one-on-one needs to become a two-on-one very quickly if we are to regain possession and improve our possession stats.
Finally, what a pleasure it is to be playing rugby at Oxford Falls. The fields are in superb condition.
Looking forward to Saturday at home against Sydney High.
Mr Mike Penistone - Rugby Development Officer
Unfortunately our first Round of competition was affected by the weather so all Away matches were cancelled. Our teams playing at Home brought some impressive gameplay to the day but were ultimately defeated by a very strong Oakhill side.
Special mention goes to our Division 1 players, especially Tom Garrett, who all held their own right up until the very last point, going down with a tie on games but 5-3 on sets.
This weekend will see our teams playing against our traditional rivals, St Pat’s College. See the draw below.
