Outdoor Education

On Friday, 7 June our two VCE Unit 1 and 2 Outdoor and Environmental Studies classes set off for Mt Macedon regional park.

A big day was ahead, with students set to tackle their longest single day hike for the year. For many of them the 17.21km was the furthest they had actually ever walked.

The distance, as well as the wintry conditions early on made for a real challenge for our students. We arrived in Mt Macedon to a foggy 7 degrees, and the hardest part of the day up first, a 1.5km climb up to the memorial cross. Once this was accomplished, we circumnavigated the rim of the former volcano as the skies cleared to a stunning winter day.

We had some tired legs, and few complaining students towards the end, but everybody rallied together to finish the loop, and achieve something many of them initially thought was beyond them.

Out students next excursion will see them face a completely different challenge, with caving and kayaking booked in on 24 July!
