Queensland Conservatorium Honours Programs

Congratulations to Zara Wigan (Year 12) who successfully auditioned and has been accepted into the State Honours Vocal Ensemble Program (SHEP). This is an educational program for music students that helps extend and encourage their pursuit of musical excellence. 

Emily Colbran (Year 11, viola) and Iluka Horn (Year 8, cello) also successfully auditioned and have been accepted into the Australian Honours Symphony Orchestra program (AHEP). AHEP provides an opportunity for Australia-wide secondary school orchestral players to work with their peers in an intensive environment of musical excellence under the leadership of a team of internationally eminent Australian conductors. 

Well done to these three students!

Flute Concert

Mrs Glindemann’s flute students will present their end-of-semester studio concert on Monday, 20th June, starting at 5:00pm in the PAC Recital Room. Students are currently working on their individual and ensemble pieces. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. 

Orpheus Strings Concert

On Sunday, 19th June at 3:00pm in Pat Heffernan Hall, Katoomba Primary School, Merriwa Street, Katoomba, Orpheus Strings will present a concert which includes some of the most beautiful music in the string repertoire: Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, Grieg’s Holberg Suite, a contemporary Australian piece called Flying by Stephen Lalor and a highlight is our esteemed French horn soloist playing Etudes by Cherubini. We are delighted that two Year 11 students from BMGS are members of the ensemble - Emily Colbran and Maeve Magner - as well as Alumni Indigo Franklin and Sel Hardaker.

We are also planning to perform John Rutter’s Ukrainian Prayer which he has recently composed as his heartfelt response to the tragic current circumstances. Mrs Cooney is hoping that students from School will join a small choral ensemble to perform this piece. If you are interested in this opportunity please see Mrs Cooney and collect a copy of the music.
