Senior School

Throughout the past two years, we told ourselves many times that this period of COVID-uncertainty would one day end. While of course COVID continues to rumble through our community, it may well be that life is at last beginning to return to normal. Over the past week across the Senior School a number of cohorts have completed assessment tasks, with our Year 10s perhaps working the hardest as they have undertaken their Mid-Year Assessment Block. Year 7 students have visited Taronga Zoo, and Year 9 have enjoyed a World War 1 Incursion. Despite wet weather affecting sports fields across the region, our netballers, hockey football and rugby players have given their all to represent the School in their chosen codes. And, our HICES Debaters and our Chess Team have done their best to out-argue and out-think their peers from our partner schools. This represents a refreshing return to the kind of full and exciting BMGS life that our students have long been used to!

In the midst of these positive opportunities, over recent days I have written to the Senior School community regarding the serious threat vapes (electronic cigarettes) pose to our young people. While we have been aware of this issue for some time and have been taking steps to manage its impact within our School community, the degree of harm this behaviour may cause our young people has become more apparent in recent days. I encourage those parents who have not yet read my recent communication to do so, and ask that those who may be aware of students at particular risk to make contact with me at their earliest convenience.
