Wellbeing

(Heads, Hearts & Hands)

Kindness and resilience have been the focus of our wellbeing lessons over the past few weeks. The juniors have been making connections to our school theme of Heads, Hearts and Heads by thinking about ways that they can act with kindness in their thoughts (their self talk), words (how we speak to others) and actions (the way we treat others). Together we discussed ways that they can demonstrate kindness every day. We also discussed that kindness is a choice, so they can choose to act with kindness in our thoughts, words and actions every day.

The 3 and 4s have been focusing on understanding resilience, what it is and how we know we are being resilient. Students brainstormed and created posters to remind themselves of steps that they can take to practice resilient behaviours in the classroom and on the playground.

The students are learning that resilience is a skill that is developed over time. We have discussed that life doesn’t always work out the way we would like it to and that difficult moments will occur. We coach them to be aware of their emotions and have introduced them to strategies that are helpful to their wellbeing and to cope with challenging situations.

The Grades 5/6s class has been working through the Inner Strength program which helps them develop a deeper knowledge of their own character strengths. Students practised identifying strengths in others and role models that they look up to. Strength-spotting in others can help children to look at their behaviours in a positive way and better understand how that can influence their own actions and behaviours.
