The following message was written by Lydia A for a Year 6-7 chapel.
Let’s imagine there are two large glasses of water in front of you. Both glasses are the same size and both are about two-thirds filled with water. But I am going to make one of the glasses different: I am going to stir two heaped teaspoons of salt into one of the glasses. Next, I am going to keep stirring the water until all the salt has dissolved. Now here’s the interesting thing: When I place a small lemon into a glass of fresh water, the lemon sinks. But when I place the same lemon into the glass of salty water, the lemon floats. The salt makes all the difference.
I think there’s a message we can get from this: If we let the lemon represent people, then the salt can represent God’s grace, love, and forgiveness. You see, without God’s help, we sink! But it’s all different when God is actively involved in our lives. God uplifts and supports us with his love and life through the saving work of Jesus. As a result, we no longer sink! Instead, we live with joy and peace, buoyed by Jesus’ saving work. Jesus is our life preserver; he keeps us afloat!
