A message from Margie

Off to Canada ✈🌎✈

Next week I'll be flying back to Canada, the country that was my home for 33 years, for a long overdue, Covid-delayed visit with my family.  An added bonus is that I'll be heading into summer in the Northern Hemisphere. 🌞 I'll be on leave for the first 6 weeks of next term. It will be strange to leave the students for so long, but I will be leaving the school in Troy's very capable hands. If you need to contact Troy for any reason you can ring the school or email him on Troy.Welfare46@schools.sa.edu.au

Other staffing changes in Term 2:

  • Jorja will be away for all of Term 3 studying to be a teacher. Lisa and Jo will be taking over on Monday and Friday. We look forward to seeing Jorja back in Term 4.
  • Stephen Tsiaprakas will be returning from his role writing curriculum, working Monday - Thursday in his year 3/4 class.
  • Kelly Charlton will be reducing to 4 days a week in her year 1/2 class, working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • Henry Lewis will be teaching Kelly's class on Thursdays, Stephen's class on Fridays, and taking on Troy's PE and Science role from Mondays to Wednesdays during weeks 1-6 while Troy is in the principal role full time.
What a highlight to finish on today! Well done, Junior Choir! :)

Bunyips on the Bonfire!

On June 24 some of our students participated in creating Bunyips for the Uraidla Hotel's Winter Solstice celebration.  We all enjoyed seeing the imaginative creations that students made for the event... and then we saw them go up in flames! The Uraidla Hotel showed great appreciation for our students' involvement and enthusiasm. Who knows what next year's winter solstice will bring?

Pied Piper Performance

During Term 2 Alex's 3/4 class have been working with Sally to create a drama performance of the Pied Piper. Students have been working hard remembering lines and creating back drops and costumes for this performance. On the last day of school their performance came to life with students performing in front of the whole school. Congratulations on a wonderful performance and all the hard work put in by teachers, helpers and of course students. We can't wait to see what the next performance will be!

Linking the curriculum

It has been wonderful to see some of the fantastic learning that has been occurring over the term. Last Wednesday Sam's class were working on incorporating art, literacy and digital technologies in the same lesson. Students created beautiful artwork of protea that were placed on their tables. Students then used "Wow" words to describe their images. From here students used their iPads to upload images and identify their best 'Wow' words to upload and share their learning with families. It was wonderful to see the language used and the engagement of all students.

Year 6 camp

The year sixes arrived back from their fun filled camp to the Flinders Ranges. Here are a few snapshots of their time away. By all reports it was freezing but magnificent! We can't wait to hear more about it in the next newsletter.

Uraidla Primary School Band

I'm really enjoying playing trombone in the band alongside these talented and hardworking young musicians. It's amazing what they can play considering they have only been playing their instruments for a short time! Thank you to our instrumental music teacher Sarah Butler for teaching and conducting the school band!

Parent reading workshop

It was fantastic to see so many parents come to our reading workshop run by Katie last week. If this is something that you missed and would like more information please see Katie for more information on developing reading skills.

It's great to see you, come on in  😎

It's been great to welcome parents and other family members in to the school yard at the end of the day. This makes things safer for drivers (and easier for them to see students on the road) and for students walking out of the gate to their family's car. We love having you back inside the gates, so please... COME ON IN!

Have a great holiday everyone ... I'll see you in September!😃
