From the College Principal

Arriving back to The Lakes after 6 weeks leave, was both refreshing and reassuring.  As I wandered through the Primary campus it was truly exhilarating with amazing displays of student work adorning the learning spaces, the focused faces and eagerness to learn was amazing. Learning is alive and well in our school.

At school council that evening our student leaders Adele and Angela reported on the range of learning  experiences and opportunities. Both students actively contributed to discussions about alarms, CCT monitors and convinced council to add a long sleeve white under shirt to uniform options. They were also successful in arguing the case for an out of uniform day next week. See details later in the newsletter.

On Tuesday, I was also privileged to witness the work of our VCAL students in the grounds and I applaud your innovation and hard work to show pride in our school.

Bill, Bonnie, and Marcus have led our community with integrity focusing on engagement and wellbeing. I managed to catch up with many senior students coming back from exams: they tell me the opportunity to have a trial run has been Most valuable.

Wednesday brought excitement and anticipation as students rehearsed for their evening performance and their barbeque and treat stall.

The Song, Dance, Art And Drama Night showcased the amazing talent of our students in both the performing and creative arts. The art exhibition was exquisite with many compliments and offers to purchase. Special thanks to Shannon for enabling the innovative, creative spirit of Our Lakes legends.

The music performances were stunning leading off the night, Jayden and Zane were raging in the drum piece. Guitars. drums, keys and saxes were all wonderful while the voices made my heart sing. Each of the class performances displayed teamwork, encouragement and so much courage. Putting yourself out there sends an unbelievable rush through your body. Performers and staff if you are as proud of your performances as your parents, friends, and teachers were you must be flying high.

To all the student roadies who set up, dismantled stage equipment, others who set up and packed up chairs and our VCAL team who cooked, served and cleaned all day, I salute you. You are champions.

The dancing, WOW! The solos, the ensembles, and range of skills demonstrated left me in awe. Aimee, Mischa, and students who choreographed or collaborated on each act, I applaud your work. To each and every contributor you rocked!

To everyone who witnessed the return of the arts @ The Lakes last night we are back!

To all staff who stayed to support our stars, parents and friends who attended thanks it was much appreciated.

Together we are all going to get to the end of term, Year 7-10 reports will be available next week with Year 11-12 report available early Term 3. Don’t forget Parent Teacher Interviews for Primary on Tuesday, 21st June and Semester 1 awards next week. A great way to end another tough term.

I will be on Long Service Leave from the beginning of Term 3 until the 10th December. Your teachers and leaders will continue to guide learning while supporting families and wish you a safe relaxing school holiday break.
