From the Principal

Dr. Andrew Cousins

What an incredible finish to Semester One!  I also add my thanks for yesterday's amazing result when the Clayfield College Foundation held its inaugural Giving Day.  This humbling result saw members of our community give generously, both financially and with their time.  On behalf of the College, thank you for your generous investment in the future of Clayfield College.  A real buzz enveloped the campus as students, staff, and those in the giving hub watched the tally grow.  It was wonderful to welcome onto campus numbers of Old Collegians, Parents, and community members as we collectively demonstrated the Clayfield spirit and let our light shine.

I thank and congratulate the Clayfield College Foundation Chair, Nick Vincent, and Board Members Laraine Kelly, Alison Chalmer, and Troy Green for their vision and leadership.  We are truly blessed to have such a committed and connected group leading the Clayfield College Foundation.  I also acknowledge the Foundation Manager Meg Graham, who converted the dream into a reality.  We are so fortunate to have someone with Meg’s passion, drive and imagination supporting the Foundation.  Meg’s planning and organisation, along with your generous contributions, ensured this successful outcome.

During the week, we launched our Countdown to Commencement Transition Program for the 2023 Year 7 class.  This was a history-making event in the life of the College where the 1st CO-ED SEVENS enjoyed a fun-filled day of Creative and Performing Arts, STEM, and Health, Well-being and Sport-focused sessions. Included in those attending were some of the boys who will be joining us in Year 7 next year. While not all of our founding Year 7 co-educational cohort were able to attend, we look forward to connecting with these families and students at the events scheduled for later in the year.  Thank you, Emma Dixon, Alice Wilson, Kelley Musgrave, Katie Probin, Justin Desmarchelier, Audrey Fellowes, Lakshmi Mohan, Chris Barnes, Jim Lloyd, Fran Wilson, Paula Hart, Fleur Wrackuale, Angela Lockyer, Tim Opstelten, Perrie Bourke, Tina Mills, Selina Tayler, David Churcher and the maintenance team for creating such a great day!  I also extend my thanks and appreciation to ceramic artist Wendy Winsley, current parent Aron Baynes, Matt Limpus from Lifetime Tennis and Georgina Osborn from Delta Gymnastics who helped deliver such a fun and interactive program for the students.

During the week, I received notice that Ms. Ning Zhangzhou has decided to move on to another teaching position. Monday 11 July will be Ms. Zhangzhou’s final day at Clayfield, and we wish her the very best in her future endeavours. I am also delighted to welcome back Mr. Christopher Humphreys to the Clayfield College community as a senior Mathematics and Physics teacher. Mr. Humphreys will take Ms. Zhangzhou’s classes starting Week 1 Term 3. A past Clayfield College parent and staff member, Mr. Humphreys is an experienced educator with over 30 years of teaching experience working across several schools in Brisbane, including Mt St. Michaels and Brisbane Boys' College. He is also an author of Cambridge Science textbooks.  We look forward to welcoming Mr. Humphreys at the start of next term.

I am also pleased to inform you that Ms. Jo Rogers will no longer be leaving the College at the end of this term.  We are incredibly excited that Ms. Rogers will be continuing with the College at the start of next term in her role as Activities Sports Administrator.

As we look towards the start of Term 3, when we welcome another twelve new students to our community, I hope that you all manage some downtime over the coming weeks as we prepare together for another great term at Clayfield College!
