Years 7-12 Netball

The 7-12 netball was held in the last week of Term 2 at the Northern Oval in Kyabram. It was set to be a great day as the sun was shining and all teams were feeling very enthusiastic about hitting the courts.

The Year 7 girls got off to a flying start in their first match as they quickly gained an advantage over all competitors. They continued this outstanding form in their second round match-up having a large win to take them through to the next round in Bendigo.

The Year 8 girls put up a great fight all day but unfortunately were outclassed by their competitors. They never gave up and demonstrated a great amount of resilience all day!

The Years 9/10 girls set the tone early on how their day was going to go. They wiped their  competitors pretty easily, with the girls putting a great team performance together to get themselves into the next round.

The Year 12 girls showed some great signs early on as they went toe to toe with Rochester. Unfortunately Rochesters state-level experience proved too strong against the girls. Although the results didn’t go their way, the girls kept a positive attitude all day.

Things were looking positive for the Years 9/10 boys early on as they stormed through the first round match-up. A rivalry against Kyabram P-12 determined whether we were heading to Bendigo or not. A tight first half didn’t worry our boys as they came out strong to take the win. They will move onto the next round in Bendigo next week.

The Years 11/12 boys came in very short handed due to injuries and illnesses. They borrowed players from anywhere they could and still managed to win all their games and will be headed to Bendigo (hopefully with a full team).

A big thank you to all the umpires who gave up their time and volunteered. Congratulations to all teams as they demonstrated resilience and great sportsmanship which is what these days are all about.

5-6 Football

The Years 5/6 football was held in Moama during the last week of Term 2. Coach Kirby and Zane weren’t there to muck around as they had their eyes set on the prize. The boys had the battle of first place straight away but we just didn’t know it. They took a bit to get into the game as St Joes got off to a hot start. We managed to pull this back to a couple goals by half time. A motivating speech from Coach Kirby and I saw the boys pull it back to a couple of points but unfortunately we ran out of time to pull off the greatest comeback of all time.

The boys continued their form as they pieced together an onslaught in the rest of their games. They resembled a performance like the 2011 Geelong Cats back in the day. It was a great team performance but some individual performances couldn’t go unmentioned. Goal sneak Jonty was a key part in the forward line, Ethan and Cooper made the midfield their own and despite being in Year 5 Billy, looked like Patrick Dangerfield in his prime.

Well done to the boys as they demonstrated great resilience after bouncing back from their Round 1 loss!

Year 8 Basketball

The Year 8 basketball was held in the last week in Term 2 at the Echuca Stadium. Our boys and girls teams were very keen to hit the courts and prove they are the future of the sport.

A wounded girls team hit the court first against a very polished Rochester side. Unfortunately the results didn’t fall our way, but the girls never gave up and kept up a positive attitude.

Their second round match up didn’t go quite as planned for the girls but they maintained a smile on their faces despite the bump in the road. I think this was to show Miss Sampson that they deserve KFC, but either way it was great to see the girls up and about.

The boys got off to a slow start and just edged past in their first round vs Echuca College. They gained some momentum heading into the second round having a pretty large win.

With all the pieces coming together, it was time for the top of the table clash against Rochester. A very controversial ending against Rochester saw us end in a draw against them meaning it was going to come down to percentage at the conclusion of the day. The boys needed a big win against Kyabram P-12 and they did just that as they powered home to a 64-0 win. This boosted their percentage massively and saw them take home the championship.

A big day like that just deserved a KFC trip at the end of it!

Congratulations to the boys who will be moving onto regional basketball in Bendigo
