Mathematics - Term Two

So far this term in Year Two we have been exploring topics from Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

In Number and Algebra, students have been applying their number sense and strategies for counting and representing numbers and explore the properties of numbers. We have been focussing on place value, fractions, addition and subtraction building to automatic recall of number facts to 20.

Students have enjoyed completing a lot of hands on activities such as playing race to 120, drawing cards to make the biggest number, completing hundreds chart puzzled or rolling dice then adding the faces to create the biggest total.

We have been looking at collections of money for recognition and counting collections to find the total. We have been challenges to make specific totals as many different ways as we can. We have begun to look at the change given when a purchase is made.

In Measurement and Geometry, students have been developing their understanding of Time including reading and recording time on both digital and analogue clocks.

Thank you for an amazing term. We hope you all have a lovely break and we can't wait to see all the students in Term Three!

Take Home Readers and Spelling Books

As part of InitiaLit-2, students have free-choice of short and extended chapter books to take home and read. Year Two students are able to choose readers from school to take home and read nightly. Students in Year Two are also free to choose books from home to read each night if they wish. Students who choose their readers on a Monday are required to return them the following Monday. After reading, please record the name of the book and the length of time reading in the student diary for the day.

InitiaLit-2 suggests students practice spelling words at home each week. These spelling words will reinforce the words used in the classroom program. Instructions for the Spelling book are on the front cover of the Spelling book.

Tissues

Thank you to those families that have sent along a box of tissues to be used in your child's classroom. We would love for you to consider sending one in if you are yet to do so.
