Konnichiwa, minasan! (Hello, everyone!)

‘YOUKOSO’ (Welcome) to the Upwey South Japanese Room!

The following are the Japanese activities our students worked on during week 7 - 9.

Foundation:

Foundation students continued to develop their Kanji-reading skills (numbers) and learnt to say ‘It is delicious’ and ‘It is not delicious’ in Japanese. For Mrs Peters’ birthday in week 7, all Foundation students made origami tulips to celebrate her special day. Excellent work!

Year 1&2:

Year 1 and 2 students continued to practise to tell the story of ‘The Giant Turnip’ through the shared performances and with the help of props. A lot of students could say the next sentence without any help by the time they made their own story strips. Great job!

Year3&4:

Year 3 and 4 students have been working on their Hiragana-reading skills with the help of trigger stories (mnemonics) and through making Hiragana shapes with objects and finger-pen writing (in the air, on their hand, etc). Their ultimate challenge was to re-organise the Hiragana cards in the exact order as the Hiragana chart. Fantastic effort!

Year 5&6:

Year 5 and 6 students have revised and further developed their self-introductory phrases in Japanese. They applied each sentence structure to introduce themselves (name, age, hobby, etc). The students also enjoyed playing class games such as Blooket and Gimkit to practise numbers. Well done!

Thank you for your kind support throughout this busy term.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
