What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

To conclude the term our Foundation students continued to refine, practise and develop their Fundamental Movement and Overarm Throwing skills.

We spent two weeks progressing through the Overarm through with each week looking to extend the students learning. This was achieved through building accuracy and confidence with throwing a variety of different shaped objects. By doing this, students realised the importance of whether they needed to throw something hard or soft to achieve the desired accuracy.

The Foundation students also completed their second health task for the semester which focused on drawing emoji's to reflect different emotions. This enabled students to understand what it might look like to others and themselves if they are feeling a particular way.

Year One/Two:

Over the past few weeks our Year One and Year Two students have refined and practised their overarm throw technique.

They have applied the skill to a variety of different activities which encompassed some traditional Indigenous games. The students favourite game seems to still be Snowball and is a game where they can really showcase their skills. The development the students demonstrated over the lessons was fantastic to watch.

As a part of the health curriculum the Year One students completed the task which asked them to pack a healthy lunch. They were given a select amount of foods and had to select a portion of them.

As a part of the health curriculum the Year Two students worked on identifying personal strengths and characteristics. Students interviewed others to see what they thought some of their strengths were. By doing this, the students were able to align both answers and compare and contrast.

Year Three/Four:

Over the last few weeks our Level 3-4 students and completed their Athletics field unit.

We returned to the unit with High Jump being our first lesson. Students were required to complete three jumps using either the Fosbury Flop or the scissor kick technique. It was great to see the students correct their technique from jump to jump.

Our next lesson focused on both Shot Put and Discus. Each event utilising a different throwing style.  During these events, the student's gross motor skills/movements were called upon to execute the throw.

As a part of the Health/Emotional/Social Curriculum the students looked at our school values and how the look, feel and sound like while participating in a particular sport. To see the various answers students offered up was fantastic. To conclude this lesson we shared our answers to develop further understanding of what each value may mean to another person.

Year Five/Six:

Over the last few weeks our Level 5-6 students and completed their Athletics field unit.

And in our last lesson we learned about the body's anatomy. The focus was both on the body's bones and muscles. Students had to label two blank different human body templates. The first looking at naming the main bones e.g. femur in the body and the second the main muscles e.g. bicep and quadricep.

Division & Region Cross-County:

Over the past few weeks, we had students represent our school at the Division and Region Cross-Country events. We are extremely proud of each individual for their efforts on the day. The determination on display was fantastic to watch as the students had to run around a soft racecourse which encompassed an incline hill for some.

We had nine students progress through from the Division to Region stage. For anyone who has competed at a region event, you will know the level of competition at this stage is extremely high. We had some fantastic results with Amelia O placing in the top 25.

We also had Jacob M as a bottom age student finish 5th, who will now represent our school at the state championships next term. This achievement in itself is phenomenal and as a school we are so proud of your efforts.

Thank you to the families who came to support on the day, this is very much appreciated.
