Mathematics!

In Math this term, we have been focused on developing our skills in two key areas: Statistics and Probability, and Measurement and Geometry.

We started the term exploring the language used in chance. The students learnt the language "Certain", "Likely", "Unlikely" and "Impossible" and used these words to describe the chance that certain events would occur. We then delved into the world of data. The students surveyed the class to collect data, and used their graphing skills to display their data and draw conclusions.

The second half of the term has focused on Measurement. The students have learnt how to measure length using a ruler, and calculate the area of 2D objects by counting squares. The students particularly enjoyed exploring informal units of measurement and measuring objects using their hands and feet. A highlight was measuring the height of their teacher!

To finish the term, we have defined the terms "Mass" and "Capacity", and explored these concepts through hands-on activities. The students estimated the capacities of containers and then tested to see if their estimates were correct. To practice measuring mass, the students weighed various objects in the classroom; reading analogue and digital scales. A highlight here was the "Rubbish Investigation"; where we weighed the rubbish bins from other classes in the school to see which class generated the most rubbish.

Have a fantastic holidays!

The Year Three/Four teachers would like to thank all of the Year Three/Four students for a fantastic term. We are so grateful to have had two consecutive terms of face-to-face learning, and can see our students thriving in the classroom environment. We are so proud of the hard work and perseverance our students have shown, and we look forward to a jam-packed Semester Two!

Have a wonderful holidays. See you next term!

REMINDERS and IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Messages - If you need to have a message passed on to your child during the day, can you please send this via the office as we cannot guarantee that emails will be read during the day.
  • Year 3/4 Common Room. The students in Year 3/4 all keep their bags in classroom 7. We would love to be able to set this up as a common room with some couches. If you happen to have a spare dark coloured couch or two that are in good condition that you are rehoming, we would love for you to consider donating it to the school for students to use. Please contact Mel Rowe if you have something suitable.
  • Diaries - Your child should be bringing home their school diary each night. We would like to encourage your child (or parent) to write down the title and author of the book that is read, along with the page numbers that have been read. They should also be writing down which times tables they have worked on that day. Students should be bringing in their diary to school daily. We would also appreciate if a parent/guardian signs the diary at least once a week.
  • Times Tables - Please assist your your child to practice these times tables so that they can respond automatically and in any order. When your child feels confident to be tested, they should let their teacher know. They will then be tested over the next few days. If they successfully pass the set of times tables, they will receive their next ninja belt (set of tables) to learn.
