2022 Term 2 Community Focus Day

What a way to end the term! After a major hiccup in the week of the Community Focus Day courtesy of COVID, the students of Vermont bounced back and put on a spectacular term ending show.

In support of the Orange Sky foundation, which focuses on delivering mobile laundry services to rural towns in Australia, Vermont raised more than $2,700 for the cause, as students dressed up with a touch of Orange, and the year 12s dressed up as ‘What they would like to be when they are older’.

The big day featured many different activities from the legendary chocolate toss to a sausage sizzle, bake sale, 3-point contest, dodgeball and even nail painting. Vermont also showcased some of its talent with live music over the course of lunchtime, leaving the jaws of peers sufficiently dropped.

To top off the day, the lovely Mr Cheney took the stage to shave his head in front of ALL his students, raising over $1,300 for blood cancer research

This was all an incredible effort from the students and teachers who spend their own time putting this together, organising and preparing tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day. Definitely a highlight of 2022!

On behalf of the Student Leadership team – thank you to all the staff and students who helped make this day such a success.

On Friday 3rd of June, Vermont Secondary College had some beautiful tall trees delivered.

All the Year 7 Captains helped to plant the trees by the front of the school.  We also had some help from the Year 12 & Year 9 Student Leaders.

The trees delivered to us included native species called Banksia and Eucalypts.  These trees were planted by the basketball courts and by the flag poles.

After school, on the Year 7 deck there was also small plants that you could take home and plant in your back garden; everybody went on the Year 7 deck to receive a plant; it was a massive hit!

Belinda Moody from Whitehorse Council helped us plant the trees and she taught us lots of interesting facts about the trees when she visited out classes.

The tree project idea started in 2020 as a sustainable option for replacing plastic ducks (which was the previous idea for welcoming year 7 Vermont students). Instead of using the plastic ducks the Vermont Student Leadership Team wanted to replace them by planting new trees which is a wonderfully sustainable idea.
