EMR YR8 BOYS/MIXED FOOTBALL

On Thursday the 16th of June, the year 8 boys football team competed in the Eastern Metropolitan Region finals at Elgar Park. The weather held up despite some early drizzle – game on. The boys started strong in their first hit out against Lilydale HS, however were unable to close out the game with a narrow loss despite some glimpses of great play. Game 2 saw Vermont come up against Blackburn HS where it all came together seamlessly. The linking play from the backline, through to the mids and the forwards was formidable. Every player was going in hard at each contest which resulted in some sore body’s but made the victory all the more sweet. Game 3 was against a fast and flashy Kew SC who had a very quick style of play which caught our Vermont boys off guard. A very special mention to Jai A, Kai M, Hamish S who scored, ran messages and performed goal umpire duties throughout the day. Your off-field role and support to the playing group was fantastic! To the playing group, it was an absolute pleasure coaching you. Also, thanks to Mr Pinder for being the best assistant coach ever. Well done to all.

Ms Malander

EMR INTERMEDIATE BOYS FOOTBALL QUARTER/SEMI FINALS

First of all, I would just like to say a big congratulations to all the boys for an absolutely sensational performance out on the ground throughout the 3 matches and we are so pumped for the Grand Final next week against Rowville. Well done to everyone who kicked at least a goal today (especially me, where I kicked 3 goals against Camberwell in front of a GIANT cheer squad). Thank you Mr Smyth and Mr Leithhead for coaching us, and our skippers captaining us to help Vermont to a 3-game victory in a row. I really appreciated and enjoyed the music played on the bus to and from East Burwood Reserve. I look forward to being back at the oval again next week for the Region Grand Final clash.

EMR JUNIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL

On Monday the 20th of June the junior girls football team competed at the EMR finals at Elgar Park. The atmosphere was electric and the weather was perfect for football! It was a great day all round, even more so courtesy of the team’s enthusiasm and relentless competitive spirit. A red hot start to the day saw the team come away with 2 comfortable wins against Lilydale and Koonung. Special mention to Tilly G who booted 5 electric goals against Lilydale whilst playing as a workhorse in the midfield. Unfortunately in game 3 against Kew the result and the wind didn’t go our way, but the team held their heads high. Well done to all involved, from your coaches Ms D’Arcy and Ms Malander

EMR SENIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL

On Monday I had the honour of coaching the AFLW Senior Girls (Years 11 & 12) at East Burwood Reserve in the EMR (Eastern Metropolitan Region) finals on an extremely cold day.

Due to illness and injury, we started the day with 17 players. Combined with the weather this made for a tough day at the office, but the girls were fantastic and gave their best all day. We were soundly defeated in our first two matches by Lilydale High School and Box Hill Senior Secondary College. As the game progressed, we had two injuries and were left with 15 players for the final match against Doncaster Secondary College. With a fantastic effort we were able to finish the day on a high winning this match 7 goals 3 points to 1:1.

Well done to all the students involved, a great effort to get to this round and a fantastic effort on the day! Thanks for letting me coach you – Tony Jacobs - Principal

EMR INTER BOYS/MIXED SOCCER

The team had a positive day but unfortunately missed out on finals on goal difference. Our first game was a walkover and then we backed it up with a 5-nil demolition of Box Hill High where we had contributions all over the pitch.  We then had to immediately go into a must win game against Balwyn where the boys played some great soccer but came up with a nil all draw. Special thanks to super coach Damanvir!

Mr Cheney

EMR SENIOR GIRLS SOCCER

Thanks to all the team involved in Senior Girls Soccer this year. Through two extremely competitive games, we came up short in our EMR comp at the Darebin International Sports Centre. Whilst we looked a bit like the walking dead by the end of it, with tough games in the rain and half our team with illness, we had a wonderful time. Thanks again for all the girls that competed, truly a highlight of my VSC career. Mr B

TEAM VIC STATE LAWN BOWLS TRIALS

During the first week of the Term 2 break on Tuesday the 28th of June, VSC had four students trying out for the SSV Team Vic for Lawn Bowls. In its inaugural year, there were 30 students from around the State vying for a spot in the squad of 10. With very limited experience compared to their counterparts, Jack C (Yr 8), Kai T (Yr 9), Lucas H (Yr 9), and Tyson G (Yr 11) held their own and were competitive throughout the day. With a variety of tests and challenges, it was a valuable experience for our students in their development within the sport and their future pursuits. Unfortunately our students weren’t successful in selection for Team Vic, but have already begun the process of joining a local Bowls Club to further develop their skills.

TERM 3 SENIOR ROUND ROBIN

BOYS/MIXED BASKETBALL

The Senior Boys had a fantastic day out at the Basketball round robin at Dandenong Stadium. The boys played Highvale and Mount Waverly, putting on a dominate display and winning both games by over 30 points. Winning both of these games meant we advanced easily to the next round. We then played both teams again in a friendly round, which were also both won easily.

The boys were able to maintain consistency producing outstanding offensive and defensive pressure all day.

Well done to Mitch D, Ethan R, Isaac M, Abhi K, Kal P, Ty G, Mitch T, Aiden L, Jack W, Ben D and best of luck in the next round.

Ms Ellard

GIRLS BASKETBALL

On Friday the 15th of July VSC sent three top tier senior girls teams to play Mount Waverley and Highvale in the Waverley Division Basketball Round Robin at Dandenong stadium. It was a fantastic day with plenty of highlights across all teams.

The A-Team report written by Ellie M, year 11Game 1 against Highvale was a good way to start the day by notching up a comfortable win. Next up, game 2 against arch rivals Mount Waverley, a game which did not disappoint. Coach Mal and every player on the bench were on the edges of their seats the entire game. There were many nail biting moments throughout, particularly when key players Ally L and Kelsie S (dubbed Dennis and Rodman) got fouled out of the game causing Ms Malander and Morgan’s heart rates to sky rocket. Play of the day went to Chloe for what looked like a contested effort in AFL, of which she finished in style with a reverse lay up. In true Vermont fashion, the girl’s willingness to play came in handy for the win.

Everyone played their very best and played each individual role within the team beautifully. The team carried themselves in a respectful fashion all day, and made Vermont Secondary College proud.

Well done Chloe C, Morgan P, Milli H, Ally L, Kelsie S, Chelsea P, Ellie M, Ava O. Onto the next challenge – EMR finals on Tuesday the 2nd of August.

The B1 Team report written by Olivia H, year 12

On Friday the 15th of July, the girls B basketball team competed in the division competition for what would be a lot of the year 12’s last sport days. Our first game was against the Vermont B2 team, where fun was the main objective. We won that game with an MVP performance from Charli S who was a top scorer of the day. Following that game was the Mount Waverley game, which didn’t go our way despite Taylah aka Lamboss’ defensive efforts, losing by about 10 points. Finally, we played Highvale in a very close game, which resulted in a last minute score from Highvale to win. While we couldn’t quite hold the lead, it was a very entertaining game that ended in a 3-point competition.

While it didn’t go our way in the end, the day was certainly worth it because we all got a lasting memory of the school and its sports days, which we have all been a part of for many years. Many thanks to the coordinators of the day, most notably Miss Malander who let us take multiple teams so we could enjoy a day of sport without having to be overwhelmed with winning, as we struggled to make a layup.

Coach/Captain Liv H

The B2 Team Report

The B2 Team finished 4th in their pool for the day. Results didn’t fall their way, but nonetheless they tried and tried again! Points were scored & cheers were had. Well done to all involved!

GIRLS HOCKEY

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Hockey team on a dominant display at the Hockey Round Robin held at the Hawthorn Hockey Centre. We won both our round games against Highvale SC and Mount Waverley SC and then dominated the final against Mt Waverley, winning 6-1. The leadership displayed by our two Club Hockey superstars, Sasha E (Year 12) and Meagan G (Year 11), was phenomenal. They should be commended on both of their star individual performances, but also their support and tutelage of the rest of the team. The rest of the team, many of whom who have never played Hockey before, all played amazingly and should be congratulated on their efforts. Shout out to Joey W (Year 12) for putting her hand up to be in goals, and some really solid performances from Jasmine N, Abbey S and Maddy H up forward. - Mr. Calwell

BOYS TABLE TENNIS

A fun day was had at the Table Tennis Round robin. Vermont entered a Boys A and a Boys/Mixed B team.

The Boys A Team - Ryan C, Piotr P, Ben C and Nikith K. This team finished 2nd in the Competition, losing to Highvale 5-1 in both the round and the final. The boys defeated Mt Waverley 5-1 in the round to ensure a final berth. Special mention to Ben who won all his singles matches!

The Boys/Mixed B team- Nikhil S, Aryan P and Reyna P finished 3rd in the competition, being defeated by both Highvale teams but also defeating Mt Waverley by 4-0.

Special thank you to Josh Chia who selected and cheered for the team!

Mr Serpant
