TERM 2 SPORTS NEWS
Cross Country Season Wrap
Congratulations, once again to all Foundation-Year 6 Ripponlea students who participated in our RPS House Cross Country event held earlier this term. Following this event, our Cross-Country team was selected to represent RPS at the Balaclava District Cross Country event. All of our Cross-Country competitors ran their very best at the Balaclava District event, held at Dendy Park.
Ripponlea PS won the Population Cup, a true testament to the depth within our talented squad. Stand-out performers on the day were Rio Keane, Harriet Michael and Archer Hobbs who all placed in the top 10 in their respective age groups. Archer’s brilliant performance ensured that he progressed to the Beachside Division Cross Country where he proudly represented the Balaclava District.
District Winter Round Robin
On Wednesday 8 June, all Year 5/6 students participated in the Balaclava District Winter Round Robin. Students selected their chosen sport and had been training on Friday’s during Sports time for this day of competition against our fellow district schools.
Well done to all teams who played Soccer, AFL, T-Ball and Netball and to their teachers who coached them throughout the term. Special mention to the Soccer team, coached by Sarah Coughlin, who finished in 3rd place overall.
A big thank you to Rebecca Valk and Rebecca Parker for assisting at the Netball Round Robin.

TERM 2 2022 VISUAL ARTS
Clay and ceramics
During Term 2 all students from Foundation to Year 4 had immense fun exploring the medium of clay. They looked at how we use clay and how clay is transformed into sculptural forms. Students discovered that clay is made up of sand and water and that historically clay sculptures have been used either for aesthetic purposes or for functional purposes such as bowls or mugs.
Students experimented with wedging, pushing, pinching, pulling and rolling clay. Some students were introduced to clay tools for the first time and all students were very excited when they got to use the variety of clay tools to flatten, mould, cut clay or create texture on their clay sculptures. Our next steps will be to put the clay sculptures in the kiln for firing and put a glaze on their final piece. Here are some pictures of students creating their clay sculptures.
Foundation students made clay leaves.
Year 1/2 students created pinch pots out of a ball of clay while Year 3/4 built on from these skills and experimented with adding coils to their pinch pots.
