Principals Message

Dear parents and carers,
Once again we come to the end of another productive term. Attendance due to sickness was a little better than our first term. The highlights have been that we have been able to get out into the community and that we have been able to hold events to which family members have been able to attend.
I find great satisfaction in the knowledge that our school is all about the children, families and staff- and the relationships we build and nurture with each other. As you know I have been here a long time and made some wonderful friends with people of all ages. On Monday morning I had a fantastic surprise when a friend who I worked with some 34 years ago called in. There was a lot of hugging and a few tears. Andrena and I worked in Year 2 together and just like teachers do today, we co planned, co debriefed and co reflected on our work and our students. We differentiated our tasks and made sure we provided worthwhile experiences for every child. In some ways things have not changed. Although, in those days we used our own money to buy the resources we needed and now the school provides everything teachers need. We were pleased to do so though, for the children in our care.
Below, Andrena and I, standing not far from the two classrooms we worked in in the early 1980’s.
After school I had another surprise visitor, Angela Hagley, Ange was in Yr 6 when I first started at St Xavier’s. She went on to do teaching and worked here for a while with me. We have remained great friends and love a good catch up.
The people, big and small, are the very reason we do this job. They are what fulfills us and satisfies us, the reason we know we are making a difference.
Some classes are already talking about having parents in for groups next term. This is exciting and another step in connecting with our parents and carers.
I hope you all stay safe over the holidays.
Kind regards,
Jen
